 Poster: A snowHead

Hi
My ( lucky) son has negotiated the whole of January 26 off work and is keen to do 4/5 weeks skiing . He’s an experienced good skier so looking at bigger areas in France ( where we have done most of our family skiing over the years)to keep him occupied eg 3v,val d’Isère ,morzine . Any advice re accommodation ,location, tips for 5/52 in resort would be very much appreciated
Thanks

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Depends on budget and the amount of graft he is prepared to put in locking down a place. I'm sure he could find a rabbit hutch studio in e.g. Les Menuires or Tignes with a bit of work with agencies and Air BnB owners etc. Otherwise if he drives out there are options in the valleys e.g. in the Maurienne for access to 3V via Orelle.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There's 4 week stays on the val thorens accomodation site from just under 2700 euro and tignes from just over 2400 euro, doesn't seem that bad per week!

There is a great gang of Seasonnaires in Tignes.....and it could be a good idea to join the Ski Club of GB, who has a Rep there who co-ordinates groups (but can't lead them).
I joined them for a week when staying in Tignes Lac for a week (Jan '23)
I can't help with accommodation.
They also have Reps in Val Thorens; Meribel and Les Arcs and a VDI Facebook Group.

@holidayloverxx, Weeks of the year, I guess. Never seen it written like that before, but...
@going downhill fast, With five weeks to spend would it not be more advantageous to go to a number of different resorts? Maybe buy a season ticket in one place allowing x number of days in other resorts to minimise cost. I know there's a few that do this, including the PdS which has been discussed on other threads and includes:
5 days Winter 25/26 +1 day Summer 2025 offered on 4 Vallées
12 free Winter 25/26 days on the AlpsPass** ski area
5 days Winter 25/26 Espace San Bernardo (La Rosière + La Thuile)
5 days Ski découverte Haute-Savoie Winter 25/26 + 3 days Ski découverte Summer 2025 (summer reserved for annual pass buyers)
**3 days Winter 2025 / 2026 at Aletch Arena + 3 days Winter 2025 / 2026 at Adelboden-Lenk + 3 days Winter 2025 / 2026 at Engelberg-Titlis + 3 days Winter 2025 / 2026 at Jungfrau)

Sorry , 5/52 is 5 weeks - work shorthand intruding on leisure posts !

@going downhill fast, will he have a car? With one he could save a lot on accommodation by staying in somewhere like Moutiers, but have to drive up to resorts each day. Without one he is looking for resort accommodation.
Or look at say Bourg St Maurice and accessing Les Arcs by the funicular, or Brides Les Bains / Orelle for Trois Vallees.

Very lucky … but needs to choose carefully and plan how to meet friends and ski buddies.
I’d definitely pick a big area … probably Val Tignes, or Paradiski or 3v or Chamonix.
Definitely stay in resort … the thought of travelling up and down by car or on Olympic gondola takes away much of the fun. You want to be there to enjoy the apres as well as the skiing. You could probably get a cheap studio for £1000 for a month in January as v quiet season.
SCGB is not a bad shout … but mainly older skiers … Best to find seasonnaires group to join and maybe even get a bar job for a few nights a week. Finding friends to hang out with is crucial as 5 weeks is quite a while to be away and … seriously … he might get lonely !

@going downhill fast,
How is he planning to travel out & back - drive, plane, coach, train?
Is he wanting lively apres & nightlife?
Exactly what dates is he looking at - over New Years?
Accommodation, Accommodation, Accommodation!
Where he goes will largely be dependent on where he can find accommodation that suits his needs & budget. He should list where he would like to spend his weeks & look for accommodation in those resorts.
He should try asking on Facebook group pages such as Tignes Seasonnaires and Tignes Seasonnaires 2025 for his list of resorts.
tignes.co.uk have long term & season apartments. chaletchardons.com have long term catered accommodation in Tignes Brevieres. action-outdoors.co.uk may be able to help in UCPA's various resort on France.
If he is driving out the Haute Maurainne Vanoise resorts would be worth a look, as (iir) the season pass covers all six, plus gives days in other resorts, plus the opportunity to 'backdoor' into Paradiski and 3Vs.
If he is interested in doing multiple resorts then look at the Ikon and Epic passes. Or find accommodation in Bourg sM & do the Tarentaise resorts.
Unfortunately he may find he has to take an apartment for the full season, but no doubt he can find family or friends to lend it to when he's back on the UK.
Long term and seasonal accommodation is in short supply, so he'd better get a wriggle on.
A last couple of thoughts. He's unlikely to find work as he's only going for a part of the season, and mid-season at that. Chalet Chardon's long term accommodation (and most of UCPA's, if he goes that route) is hostel style, which would help meeting ski buddies.
