Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Montgenevre self catering rental advice

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We’re thinking of going to Montgenevre over the New Year.

Considered Sauze d'Oulx but hearing the lift system not so good and snow record not so good in Sauze either, so unless you my fellow Snowheads tell me otherwise, we’ll be opting for Montgenevre…..and this is where I ask for help from you guys.

We’re a family of 7 so need to try and keep the cost down. I’ve looked on airb&b and vrbo and drawn a blank. Can you guys recommend a website where I can find suitable rentals ?

Also, we’re travelling from Buckinghamshire so will fly out of Luton or Heathrow. What’s the best airport for Montgenevre ? Turin ?

Any other recommendations greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys and girls

Turin a very easy drive to Montgenevre, cheap car hire too. Good service from Sicilybycar last season.

It varies on which direction the weather systems have come in from on whether the conditions are better in Sauze, Sestriere or MontyG within the Via Lattea, but its often marginal anyway.

MontyG often open up more slopes quicker than the Italian side, but at new year everywhere will be as open as snow permits.

Cost wise Italy is cheaper and better for food (particularly on slope) than the French side, but that depends how much eating out vs self catering you're doing.

If you are hiring a car (recommended as cheapest transfer cost from Turin) and are very cost conscious then you could consider staying just out of resort like say Cesana and then drive to one of the lift access points. Just outside Cesana the lifts go both ways and your very central for exploring the full extent of Via Lattea. If in Sauze its a long slog to Monty G and back, with a bit of downloading both way thru Cesana.

Also note the access from Mt Fraitieve down into Sauze is either a black slope or a narrow rutted cart track, which is a consideration if you have any less experienced skiers in your 7.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Fab, Turin it is then, and will check out van hire options as 7 of us.
Any economical hire companies out of Turin ? I'm sick of getting fleeced by the usual big brands

I'm not familiar with Cesana, so will look that up as we will no doubt have a van for all 7 of us (if I can find one which isn't too expensive).
Is there a particualr company/website that is good for Cesana ?

@jamie72carter, the resort's own tourist website is usually a good place to start. As for vans, you could try Vans for Bands which had some good deals available last winter - I was looking at one because our family's van was off the road for a bit. In the end, it got fixed. If you do a search here on Snowheads on "vans for bands" you'll get some details.

If you're in Great Missenden you're quite well placed for their base in Oxford.

I think Pam might have got hold of the wrong end of the stick - Vans for Bands do Van hire to drive from UK, you want hire from Turin airport.

sicily by car are decent, I've booked them via Clarify car hire for last winter which worked fine - was cheaper and easier than doing it direct thru SbC italian website. Not a van obvs as there was 4 of us.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Ah that's super useful. I have messaged Vans for Bands just to check costs, as we do usually drive from the UK BUT this time round we will probably fly, so will also check with Sicily by car and also Clarify.

@jamie72carter, if you have 2 drivers I suspect 2x cars will be a lot cheaper than a minivan for 7……

Yes, I did get hold of the wrong end of the stick, sorry. I agree that 2 smallish cars might be cheaper than a van and worth investigating. Though you then need to park two!
