Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Direct trains to Switzerland planned

Apparently Switzerland is very serious about introducing direct trains from London. People in the know have commentated that Zurich and Basel look very doable but Geneva is apparently problematic due to lack of space for passport checking facilities…

@AliAfro, I would expect Geneva also problematic as the track from Bourg-en-Bresse is not high speed?

@under a new name, neither was Lyon to BSM in the Eurostar Ski Train days. Just slows things down - the TGV Lyria does that section at the moment

It sure is! Sounds like Zurich would be about 5h15 - so arriving at 3.15pm for a 9am departure. Could get to a lot of resorts in time for ski hire & dinner from there.

Very promising but nothing doing yet:

"Ms Alexander hailed the signing of the agreement as “an important day” but acknowledged there is “a lot of detail to work through” before services begin."

"Mr Rosti predicted that progress in opening the route will not be “as fast as I would like” but insisted it is “really likely” that services will launch in five to 10 years."

@doorman_tom, you've got to love a Swiss minister called Mr Rosti. I hope there is a Ms Tartiflette too ...

I suppose the advantage of train journey is you can take your own skis for no charge? Eliminates the hire shop stop.
