@badatbetting, Never been in (I prefer the Dorfstuberl) but I thought Bobos is fairly lively? there always seems to be a queue come 22:00. I avoid Bar Cuba as always thought it was dingy and grubby though maybe has had a spruce up.

True, bobos is sometimes busy but I've never been able to work out when! It does still always seem to be later on though, I can't remember what hour they stop serving food, but I seem to recall its quite late and then takes a bit of time until it gets busier. Being the doorman there doesn't seem to be the dream job...

It's often quite busy during the food service time too. I'm not sure if there is an actual time they stop serving food, I've eaten in there between 9 and 10pm lots of times and there doesn't seem to be a set time for the kitchen to close. The food portions are huge in there, it's mostly chicken/ribs type stuff, but the Steak Fajitas are good. It's another place in the Alber empire if you haven't already spent enough with them in their hotels/ski-shops etc !

Yeah Bar Cuba always looks like the kind of place which is waiting for a fight to break out. its probably one of the few bars in St Anton I'm not sure I've ever been to, or at least I don't remember being there. Definitely not been in the last 20 years anyway !

Bar Cuba is an odd one, the seating arrangement isn't the most comfortable and sometimes the bar queue can take agessss...
Overall i quite like it for football/rugby matches and generally to be a drunken menace though.
I'm just a pure ski bum, just drinking and skiing

Generally as a group we have alternated between Ischgl and St. Anton every other year but this year will not be returning to SA and it really comes down to the apres options later in the evening.
SA has better apres options up the slopes with Kk and Mooser but with the closure of Piccadilly and The Underground, there are few enough options to bridge the gap between apres and a night out. Maybe Antony’s for a bite to eat and head downstairs after or onto Bobos.
There seems more options in Ischgl once the lifts close with Trofana, Champagnerhutte and others that stay lively into the evening.
Overall st Anton has become a little too sanitised imho - more extensive skiing options in SA though.

Yeh I can't argue with that, I hope to hit up ischgl a lot more this season with the snowcard tirol pass - Shame we'd have to drive back though so can't party overly hard.
I even met people in mooserwirt who booked a taxi straight to ischgl at 8pm due to the limited evening activities!

Paznauner a decent option up the slope in Ischgl for a couple of beers before closing at 4ish. Wouldn’t be horsing into it though as bit of spin down the hill compared to SA!
Looking at Saalbach as an option…how does it compare to SA/Ischgl from apres perspective?

I've heard great things, but haven't personally experienced it.
On a side note I have noticed there is a bus/train combo from St Anton to Ischgl and the timings are quite reasonable (7.30pm return so can have a decent amount of beers), however the train seems quite expensive to my British eyes. Is there any OBB tricks to get discounts? I can't even work out how to get a return ticket...

From my experience booking through obb app is way to go to get best price…might need to book 2 single tickets each way.
Other option if there’s a group of ye would be to get an Uber…around €150 one way though.

@badatbetting, Get the VVT app. There is a maximum fare which covers both trains and bus. I can get back to Munich for around €20 one way. VVT ticket plus seat resevation from St Anton to Kufstein is about €20. It will be more expensive for others as I get oldies discount (ski pass too ) and I also have a Deutschland ticket so that covers train in Bavaria. Even so cost from St A to anywhere in Tirol will be no more than €20 ish (dont know what new price will be from mid December maybe €21 or €22)

I think the issue is the bus is very expensive lol, it is €18.30 one way for the journey so basically €37 return which is a joke... however the weekly pass is €29.50 so is a no brainer to do... If there are any further discounts please shout!

@badatbetting, I just looked up the price from St Anton to Ischgl on VVT and cost is €18.30 if you use the train between St A & Landeck or €15.20 if you use the bus. So possible to do €30 return which doesnt seem unreasonable.

Weather ( Western Austria)
A top temperature of 23.7°, Bludenz (Vorarlberg) is right up there in the lead across the whole of Europe today.
Such top temperatures are otherwise only found on the Canaries, on Sicily, and in Cyprus.
But in Eastern Austria Vienna is one of the coldest capitals on the continent .
Mountain forecast Austria
Today, Saturdays 15. November 2025
On Saturday there will still be stable autumn weather in the mountains, although clouds are already playing a larger role in the weather. The sky is frequently covered with high and medium-high clouds, but there are also short sun windows in between Rain remains the exception. The wind blows weakly to moderately in the east, and in the west in foehn swaths it also blows briskly from the south. The temperature drops slightly at all altitudes. At 2000 m it is between 2 and 5 degrees at midday, at 3000 m it becomes slightly frosty.
Sunday, 16. November 2025
On Sunday, denser cloud fields will appear from the southwest, and the main Tauern ridge and the Southern Alps will increasingly become foggy. In the rest of the mountains the sun shines again at times, but towards the west it becomes slightly foehn. Towards the evening the first showers are expected as the weather change approaches. The wind blows briskly, in exposed locations also strongly from the southwest, at an altitude of 2000 m it is another 2 to 6 degrees.
Monday, 17. November 2025
Monday will bring cloudy and wet mountain weather. It is overcast from the start, most of the peaks are in fog and it rains or snows quite often. The passage of the cold front causes a significant drop in temperature, with gusty northwesterly winds the snowfall limit from the northwesterly drops to higher valleys in the afternoon. On Tuesday night, when intensity decreases, it will snow throughout the mountains all the way to the valleys. At an altitude of 3000 m, the temperature drops to around -14 degrees by the evening back to -8 to -4 degrees at an altitude of 2000 m.

Yeh but I'm saying the weekly pass is €29.50 so you may as well do that even if only doing one time (I believe this can use the train also, unless my google translate is letting me down?)
Still if only doing one day, for me and my mate its basically €60 and it would probably make sense to just drive and pay parking - The major downside is doing a sober apres ski, which I don't particularly enjoy lol

Hinterglemm and Saalbach more than decent for apres. Goaßtahl in Hinterglemm is a version of the Moos of sorts BUT much much cheaper for drinks. Schwarzacher is a great place too at the foot of the slopes - both of them absolutely jumping. We prefer Hinterglemm to Saalbach but probably more apres action in Saalbach. We tend to party hard from 3.30 to 8 then grab dinner at the hotel then get to bed around 10pm or so. Wake up fine then repeat.

The Cops are red hot with Alcohol control (random breath tests at roadside checks) on the B188 Paznauntalstraße especially foreign number plates..
Fines can be upto €5,900 .

Traffic Driving Violations
Is Austria the Police can impose on-the-spot fines of up to €90 (in Cash) to drivers of foreign-registered cars. For a higher fine, the police may ask motorists to pay a deposit, with the remainder of the fine payable within the following two weeks.
Its wise to always keep €90.00 in cash on you while driving..

@badatbetting, As ever his English is rubbish, what he means is - if you get stopped by the Police for a traffic violation, say speeding which is a not unusual occurrence, the Police can demand a cash deposit / fine. Post Brexit owners of UK registered vehicles escape enforcement for camera type violations like speeding or not paying the vignette (the Austrians wont give the Brits details of their vehicles so the Brits do the same!). If you get caught over the limit for alcohol or drugs the Police are likely to take away your licence on the spot. No fines simply for driving non Austrian registered vehicles, if there was the entire budget of the Austrian state would be paid for by BMW driving Piefkes In more relevant news there seems to be wet snow this morning.

Socks are banned too! Last year I was in the Dorfstuben and a couple of youngish men came in. They had left their ski boots outside and were just wearing socks. The barman leaned over the bar saw the socks and said "sorry no socks"! Moral of the story is put a pair of slippers in your rucksack. Bit different from the long ago days when I went to discos & night clubs and trainers were banned Anyway the pictures look nice and wintery this morning. Season tickets go on sale in 10 days and with the forecast looks as if all will open on schedule.

Which is completely logical given the fact that both Arlberg and Paznaun in winter have way more foreign than local 'inhabitants'. No interesting news here.
