Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The #680 bus runs every hour in each direction. Last bus back from the Schattberg Xpress in centre of Saalbach is at 19.23 (you can catch it anywhere along the valley) but this bus, and the 17.28 and 18.28 departures, can get very busy.

It is also possible to ski most of the way from Zell over to Saalbach and back. From the top of Schmittenhohe in Zell ski across to the Zell am See Xpress lift - the one that comes up from the Glemm valley at Viehhofen. Either ride all the way down on that lift or ski to the mid-station, then download. There is a track that goes all the way to the valley floor, but generally this is icy crap. From the Viehhofen lift station a free and regular bus takes you to the Schonleiten lift (it takes about 7 minutes) which is the entry lift into the Ski Circus - turn left at the top to ski to Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Fieberbrunn, or turn right and ski over to Leogang.

Skiing back - if piste 168 is open (sadly it is usually closed) you can ski down to the Zell am See Express lift and ride back up to the Zell ski area - or take the #680 bus back to Zell. Note, this bus stops on the main road, NOT at the lift station. Alternatively, if you're in Saalbach on the Schattberg side, you can ski the long piste 2b from the top of Schattberg to Jausern/Schonleiten in the valley. From there, either catch the shuttle back to the Zell am See Xpress lift at Viehhofen, or catch the #680 (which at Schonleiten also stops on the main road and NOT at the ski bus terminus at the lift station).

Short version - yes, it is very convenient; yes, the bus service is reliable and decent (and free).

 Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@quinton, an excellent, comprehensive reply!
As you say, the #680 bus service between Saalbach and Zell am See is now free for skiers.
And the ski bus shuttle service between the Zell am See Xpress and the Schönleitenbahn lift station is every 10 minutes, so twice as regular as it used to be.
