I found the Oktobertests excellent for trying out different skis. Sadly these are no more.
Are there any other similar events? Either in resort type ones or more helpfully for my in a snowdome in UK?

Ski Bartlet have done oneover the past couple of years in conjunction with Atomic, join their mailing list and you should pick up dates nearer the time (end of summer).

I'll start a new demo days thread later in the year when the new calendars start to come out. Bear in mind that a lot of the events run every year at around the same time, so if there's a location you're interested in from last season, there's a good chance it will come around again. The best thing to do is to follow the resorts and the sponsors/organisers on social media or join their email lists.
