 Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
Just thinking of a last min trip for 2 or 3 days to the Alps to catch some of this late spring snow. With work commitments I would probably aim to go either Sat/26th/Sun 27th - Tuesday 29th or sometime from the 1st May.
Not worried about off piste, just some nice runs, relaxed lunch and spring conditions for a couple of days.
Geneva from Gatwick is the most accessible for me but would likely hire a car so can be flexible.
Not sure where will be open then and might still have snow. Any suggestions for what may work would be most appreciated!
Many thanks in advance.

Cervinia - Turin
Zermatt - Geneva / Zurich
Kaprun - Salzburg
Obergurgl - Innsbruck
Tignes/Val D/Val T - Chambery
All open until 4/5th May and have had a recent dump

Obergurgl closes on the 27th. If you want Austria then Hintertux is probably the best option easy enough from Munich. Given the recent heavy snow Cervinia is possibly the best spot.

Weather looking a bit unstable over the next few days in the French Alps, no idea from the 26th.
The dump melted ! Still good higher up though.

Grands Montets (Chamonix/Argentiere) is open till the 4th of May. And there's a lot of snow up there. Need spring timings as it was boilerplate at 10:30 this morning => ambient temps are a bit low, and it's north facing.

I beleive L2A is open until early May.
Snow above 2600m should still be good, slushfest down to Cretes 2100m
Was there last week during the mega-dump and the snow was insanely good higher up, absolute bucketloads of the stuff.
Looks quiet this week looking at the webcams so should stay in decent condition

I was in Val D'Isere for the dump this week and Friday and Saturday skiing was amazing and I would imagine the whole area (with Tignes) would still be good then on piste with the sheer amount that came down.

@gradusxv,
Tignes & Val d'Isere due to open until 4th May, as is Val Thorens (but most of the rest of 3Vs shut yesterday).
Try asking on the Facebook group 'Tignes Seasonnaires 2025' as to what accommodation would be available.

@munich_irish, thought it may be extended if conditions favourable? Going by cams and having visited in late March Cervinia looks good for it - even checked my hotel (which has availability) as was flirting with a final cheeky return fling!

@Belch, unfortunately many of the Austrian places, notably Arlberg seem to have fixed dates these days, primarily because of the issues around employing staff. Ischgl runs until May 4th which is longer than "usual" as normally closes with the May day concert. I would imagine that would be a good option

I was skiing Hintertux in boot deep powder last Friday, so piste coverage is good, with more due due this week 30-40cm forecast for Thursday and Friday.
If Munich flights work, it's a good option.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

 You know it makes sense.

Sölden is usually the last to close, but I've not checked this season. Isghl is generally close. The precise end date is usually the May Day weekend, so May 4 if that's when the weekend falls. I have ridden down to Ishgl base on closing day, but skiers might find it a bit too sloppy. Sölden you're normally restricted to the glaciers, in maybe a dozen visits I've only once been able to ride down to the mid station on closing weekend. It's usually easy to find accommodation, but most of the village restaurants will be closed by the closing weekend, as will the "folk dancing" clubs and all that. Ishgl is livelier than Sölden at village level then, if that's your thing.

I'm in Zermatt now and the on-piste conditions are good, especially at the highest altitudes. Last day of lift service is 4 May.
