 Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all, i'm looking to fly tomorrow(!) with a beginner with me and the choice is Arc2000/1950 or Belle Plagne/Plagne Soleil.
With all the recent snow and lift/piste closures, I'm worried there will be enough long blue runs for her and a few reds for me to make it worthwhile.
Please someone help me finally make a decision as i've been struggling wih this all week!

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@K2Punk, it's probably OK to assume that, by Sunday, the aftermath of the storm will be over and that the pistes (assuming you're not interested in off-piste) will be prepared for normal use.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

She's not a complete beginner, presumably? Even so, might be enjoyable for her to have a private lesson, if funds will stretch, which would give you an opportunity to head off for some harder skiing. If she IS a complete beginner I'd go to whichever place you can get suitable lessons. Pistes might get quite lumpy and challenging in the afternoons.

@K2Punk, I think there may be more blues in the Belle Plagne area than the Arc 2000 area. The lift/piste closures at the moment are IMHO irrelevant. Things will be different on Sunday and I imagine most lifts will be open by then and a lot of pistes. I expect most piste closure will be the blacks. There will be plenty of blue and red piste skiing in both resorts.
Note that the area below Lanchettes chair is closed because they are constructing a new lift and taking the old ones out of service. This shows up as a lot of closed pistes and lifts on the map, but few people ventured that low in April anyway. In fact it is generally one of the backwaters of Les Arcs. As a consequence Lachattes was only serving one piste, a fairly non descript blue, and when I was there two weeks ago no one was using it anyway.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I’d go to Belle Plagne. The magic carpet there is completely fenced off for beginners if they are a total beginner so no risk of other skiers coming through like in Arc 2000. And once they can ski down to Arpette via Arolles they can do the Ange magic carpet at the top and then Laines variant back to Belle Plagne which is a good long run. Did this only a week ago with a near total beginner and they progressed really well.

I’m here atm at Aime 2000 staying at the Club Med.
Most if not all the lifts are open. It’s beautiful and sunny today (as it was yesterday). You and your friend will have a blast. There is obviously plenty of snow around haha
