What are folks thoughts on planning next year's holidays? Wait till closer or book soon to ensure lower prices?

Ah, the perennial question that search would give you many threads around but in general:
Book ASAP if:
- You're fussy about resort/accomodation/etc, If you're fussy and what you want sells out, it's sold out and you're stuck making compromises you don't want to.
- Risk adverse WRT prices. Sometimes holding out can get you a better deal...but generally prices go up (especially if fussy as above).
- You're organised and want to be able to take advantage of pre-season lift pass discounts, etc.
- You're stuck with school holidays. Demand is always going to be high and prices never going to come down for these weeks.
Book ALAP if:
- You're more interested in chasing the snow and how deep it is, not where it is.
- You're not fussy. If your accomodation is literally somewhere to lay your head and you don't care if it's a walk/bus/train to the snow you can negotiate to a degree as a bed sold below full rate but above cost is better than an empty bed.
- You're either disorganised or really flexible.
- Are more of a gambler so willing to accept the risk of booking late being more expensive than booking now for the potential reward of it being cheaper later.

Booked my lads trip to Avoriaz last night For the type of trip I do (self organised) the cost of flights will only go up, and the accommodation price doesn't change.
Currently waiting for EJ flights for end of March/Easter to be available, and will then book up the 'family trip' (which this year comprises two of my boys and I, since one is staying at home with Mum to revise for his A-levels)

@Layne, we've just had our first family ski trip, booked accommodation late with Sunweb - £1,600 for accom + 7 day lift passes in Cervinia which seems like a very good deal. We booked flights separately and rented a car for transport so all in it wasn't an outrageously expensive trip.
That said we were unlucky with weather with the recent snow storms which closed lifts for 2 days, including the brightest, best weather day.
Our girls are just starting out with skiing so not fussed about going to amazing resorts, just happy to have decent reds and good lessons to keep them occupied for as long as possible.

Anyone else noticing the prices going up a lot this year on the ones that have released prices? One place that we stayed in a couple years ago (and the year before) is now almost 25% more expensive for an accommodation only which seams a big increase given this is just essentially a property. Many other properties seem to also be of similar pricing too. (We are looking at half term which doesn't help so expecting it to be bad not seems much worse than previously)

Yes I certainly noticed that and also prices aren't published on a site I use most years, it's a shame as we've used this company for many years but have booked a place via Airbnb this time.

I tend to wait. I think if you can hold out you can get a better deal. Unless you’re absolutely stuck with a date/certain accommodation.

@Rusty76, if booking flights separately then the usual advice is to book asap. Price for flights is much more dynamic than anything else.
The peak weeks - Feb HT (especially France), new year plus almost peak Christmas it's best to book accommodation asap. Off peak, including "Easter" less of an issue. There was a debate on here recently about when accommodation was released and tbh the jury was out between now and early Autumn. Personally I book my accommodation for Christmas in Sept/early Oct and for "Easter" early Feb, although I have booked a couple of weeks before on occasion.
There is no doubt that Sunweb and Snowtrex offer great deals so I wouldn't put you off using them again. I personally use the tourist office (online) or local agencies.
Sometimes you can get discounted lift passes booking early season (if not using Sunweb/Snowtrex where it's included.
I am not sure how dynamic the pricing of car hire is but that and transfers are a big factor these days so worth shopping around for sure and probably better sorted sooner rather than later.

Haven’t used leboncoin to rent as we have our own place, but we have had several bookings for our apt through them - prices should be cheaper as their fees/commission is less than Airbnb etc.

Leboncoin is a French website that you can buy items through or book holiday accommodation, usually from private owners.

I would say so as there are buyer protections in place similar to Airbnb etc,

It's really interesting, however there isn't an English version available (which isn't too bad).
It's not something fixed, I suppose... I mean, when I enter the dates I want, I almost always (in around 90% of cases) get a message like "availability not fixed" or something similar.
On top of that, many offers display something like "accept reservation XX%" -- and for some there is something like 20% ! ! !
I really don't know what that means...

Most of our guests send a message through leboncoin in the first instance to check availability (sometimes they then book through the site, sometimes they opt to book direct on our website as it’s cheaper). Each apartment owner sets their own terms so I guess the 20% you are seeing would be the deposit with balance due sometime before your arrival.

If you’re stuck with school holidays and/or weekend to weekend, then book flights asap as they’ll be cheaper now than later.
If you’re flexible with pretty much everything, hold off and decide whenever you fancy going close to the time based on conditions. Even if you have time off from work booked but can be flexible, I’d hold off until closer.

If anyone is looking for Easter 2026 flight, Easyjet's are already released and available for booking. They went live at around 6.30 am despite their website saying 9 am.

Un Bon Coin meant a good spot, the right place etc. If you were in a restaurant and they said "j'ai en haut un bon coin pour toi" it would mean "I have a good spot upstairs for you", bu Le Bon Coin is now a ubiquitous phrase for a place to get bargains in the same way CraigsList is/was in the US.

@NickyJ, Yeah saw those for the Easter week so we're going 11-18 April. Got return Gatwick flights to Lyon for 4 for under £600 with luggage which I was very pleased with.
Easyjet don't seem to be running that many Gatwick-Geneva flights for Saturday 4th which you'd think would be a peak travel day for them, it being Easter weekend.

My daughter back at school for that week.
Think now going to go anywhere next year as family as it is her GCSE year. I was still thinking of an Easter week maybe but she is a bit worried about impacting revision, hence we are on fence. Heathrow to Munich with Lufthansa is looking good still... must have a proper talk at home.

@NickyJ, you have to do what you think is best obv. but both mine went skiing at Easter in GSCE/A level exam years. My take is that the break does them good and that they should be in a good place way before then. I don't think it's made any odds.

We didn't with eldest as she was adamant didn't want to and the anxiety of if I had tried would have been harmful. Youngest doesn't suffer from the anxiety in the same way, but is definitely worried about doing so. I think it would be helpful but only if she THINKS it will be. However feels more and more difficult each year to make trips in school holidays affordable!

Ended up booking an eight day trip flying out on the Saturday and back on the Sunday. The money saved (over £100 per person) will go on a hotel in Annecy for the Saturday night and can spend the day there to end the holiday. Rather spend it that way than going to EasyJet.
