Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tromso April 2025

Massively inspired by this thread and finding out I had a BA Amex voucher that needed using up we booked flights at the end of Jan to Tromso over next week for an incredibly good price!

Can't find any guides that are free so I'm armed with a load of useful databases, Strava links and a fair bit of experience to tour some of the gentler slopes interspersed with doing "other things"

Sadly our top two things to do of spotting wild Moose and spending time with some reindeers appear to have both shut for the season!

But the forecast is looking promising for a Monday tour and its appears to be a lot colder than my trip last year to Lofoten which was very moist to say the least!!

The live camera here has been useful when packing! https://tromsoalpinpark.no/english-live-camera/

@kitenski,

Enjoy it! And remember to keep us posted wink .

We left it too late to book for Tromso this year, so the price of flights had gone through the roof Sad .

Day one, we weren't going to bother due to the forecast, then last night a short window appeared, so it was an 830 start in the car park for a short tour, before the wind and snow kicked in. We missed the snow, but the wind was howling even at 490m, which killed the fresh snow, which was super heavy and wind affected, we got around 10 decent turns in lower down in the saplings!

Fingers crossed the forecast sun arrives tomorrow!!

Managed to find a decent selection of beers locally!

this is the ascent to Rodtind Happy there is a nice steep pitch on the flank of Finnlandsfjellet if you look skiers left from the summit.

@danbre2022, nice spot it was indeed Rodtinden. Today we saw the sun and had fresh powder Smile up to the top of Stormheimfjellet.
Sadly my wifes boot issues continue, so we had to stop to take boots off, and looks like less vert tomorrow now!

The forecast was an improving one today, we left the car to a slight drizzle and overcast skies heading to Botnfjellet.

Fortunately the forecast was correct and the skies were mostly clear by the time we hit the peak. I was a bit worried about the snow as it had warmed up and if I stopped the snow stuck to my skins. Mrs K is still suffering with her boots so we had to stop twice to remove them, however once back at the apartment we think we've spotted two hot points which are cutting off the circulation.

It skied really nicely, a touch heavier at the lowest point but nice wide turns were the order of the day in the heavy stuff until we hit a nicely prepared XC track back to the car.

We had a few days sightseeing (agreed not to tour every day before we booked this!), drove around Kvaloya island to Sommaroyo stopping off on the way at a few places.

Wandered around looking for wild reindeer, plenty of droppings and hoof prints but no animals, then drove back through a residential area and spotted a herd trashing someones back garden!

Friday we went to the local aquarium which was much more interesting than expected, some nice tanks, seals, and pano videos around Svalbard.

Today the plan was for shorter tour and a late afternoon wandering around the local area, the bush wacking at the start took an hour to cover 1km so we got back much later than expected

We stopped half way up for my wife to take off her boots and as there wasn't much wind got the drone out.

Once out of the trees had a lovely tour up as the snow showers cleared, the skis fully cleared whilst we had lunch, nobody around and despite some heavy/windblown snow a great ski down!
