Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Advice on adding a second resort after Lech (driving towards Zurich)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi everyone,

We’re restructuring our January trip and would love some advice. We were originally planning to spend about 12 nights in Lech, but due to flight availability we’re now arriving a bit later and thinking of splitting the trip — around 7 nights in Lech followed by 4 nights in another resort on the way back to Zurich (we’ll have a rental car).

We’ve been considering Flims / Laax, Andermatt, and Davos Klosters as possible second stops. St. Anton is obviously close, but we’d prefer somewhere a bit quieter and less crowded.

Our first choice has been Laax, as the terrain looks great and there’s plenty of mileage, but we’ve read some mixed reviews lately — mainly about the dynamic pricing, and we’re a bit concerned it might feel a bit like Val Thorens, with a strong student/snowboarder crowd.

For context:

My partner is an intermediate skier (comfortable on hard blues and easy reds).

I’m more advanced, and we both love long, groomed runs.

We really enjoyed the Three Valleys in France, and Zermatt.

Would love to hear thoughts on which resort would pair best with Lech, or if there’s another option between Lech and Zurich worth considering.

Thanks a lot!

Montafon ski resorts are meant to be very pleasant and a fairly short drive. I've only been to Gargellen a long time ago and don't know the area well.

Montafon is the obvious. I wouldn't say your Swiss choices are on the way back to Zurich but if you're willing to bring such a detour into play you bring a lot of the Tirol also into scope. You could do worse than basing around Innsbruck somewhere and daytrip exploring.

I would go to Andermatt... It's Swiss, interesting, and has great skiing!

I loved Andermatt when I went but wouldn't say its skiing was particularly good for someone who likes blues/ easy reds.

It's quite cruisey if you ski across to Disentis.

Ah I'd forgotten they now link up you could only ski the Andermatt valley when I went , though the skiing at Hospental was quite pleasant it wasn't extensive and most of the skiing was on the Gemstock

- Andermatt is nice and more motorway like since the expansion but it‘s pretty out of your way.
- Flims/Laax is a good call, I‘ve never noticed any issues with students there and there are some pretty high end restaurants about too so it‘s not like it‘s completely student orientated.
- I‘d add Lenzerheide/Arosa to your list - pretty close to Flims/Laax but a more family orientated vibe.
- Davos/Klosters does have some nice skiing but it‘s disjointed (more a series of unlinked small areas on the same pass) and Davos town is overpriced and not particularly nice.

Maybe the slopes in Lenzerheide would be easier, though I've not been there (yet). Lenzerheide is not as far to drive from Lech too.

I'd also recommend Arosa/Lenzerheide.

Andermatt isn't suited to a skier happy on blues and easy reds.

I think I'd go just a short way east via Stanton to Serfaus. I've never been there, but I do want to give it a go.

There is a Hotel in Landeck which offers a Ski Safari.

It might be worth loking at their web site to see if it fits in with what you want.

In Lech you'll certainly have plenty do do for a week .. going out around to Zurs, Zug, Warth & Stanton
Make sure you pop in for lunch at the Hostpitz in St Christoph.
Probably one of the best trips to the toilets in the Alps.

Or as @T Bar has suggested The Montafon region is more or less on the way back to Zurich.

Have a great time wherever you end up.

@Malbec85, Davos would be a good choice. Of the various options suggested it is one of the closest to the direct route from Lech to Zurich. It has some great long runs from the top of Parsenn down to Klosters with the potential to also ski down to Kublis or Serneus if conditions allow. You could easily ski 3 days on Parsenn without getting bored and spend a fourth day on Jacobshorn for variety

Never skied Andermatt. But every time we're driving through in summer we noticed what a disaster the current enormous constructions are.

*Ischgl is just 1 hour from Lech
*Even St.Moritz/Engadin is just 2,5 hours
*Montafon after Arlberg is not a good follow up, stepping down...
*I don't know Laax/Weisse Arena, but heard Flims might be nicer.
