What I will never get because I am a scaredy skier is why good skiers come so close to people who are obviously struggling - I was making my way down the moguls and a guy turned right beside me and I panicked - he pissed himself laughing and then two turns later did the same again - him and his mate thought it was hilarious

That particular run (Carroley) down to either the Salla lift or all the way to Crozats, is the only way to get back over to La Plagne if you've been to Les Arcs for the day. Likewise if you stay in Montchavin or Les Coches, or are coming over from Les Arcs to explore La Plagne, you'll need to take that slope to get over. When I was there in January, with good cold conditions, it still got mogulled up by lunchtime thanks to sheer number of skiers. The top section to Salla always gets bad, and that lift doesn't always run (old and slow) so the section down to Crozats is also not great - but less steep I think, so easier to manage.

Has anyone ever tried the alternative of skiing down the line of the (Replat) rope tow, and then taking the Salla piste to the bottom of the Salla lift? The first bit might be tricky, with many skiers skating or poling uphill besides the tow, and not expecting anyone descending in the opposite direction....

I would agree - especially as we can’t really avoid it as we usually stay in Montchavin. We always try and do it early, and it’s not too bad apart from being busy.

Hello, can pedestrians take either of the 2 ski lifts out of 1800 or is bus the only way to reach the other sectors?
Thanks.

"1800" is oe of the few designated pedestrian chairlifts, so can be taken. Whether Aime 2000 (where it drops you off) is somewhere that you would want to go is another matter!

Well, @cureuil, one learns something new every day.
I never knew the 1800 chair lift was available for pedestrians.
And so are the La Roche, Montchavin and Pierres Blanches lifts
See: https://www.skipass-laplagne.com/en/pedestrian-passes.
But as you say, why would anyone on foot want to use anything other than the excellent bus system?

@Jonpim, my guess is that those lifts might be used for summer walking activities (when presumably the buses don't run)?

Not quite ecureuil: the buses still run July and August, just every 30 minutes rather than every 15 minutes.
But in summer there might be a reason for taking those lifts. The walk down from the top of 1800 is quite lovely then.

Around 5-10cm of fresh today.
Sunny tomorrow.
Trail down to Champagny at 1250m now closed.
Looks like 30-40cm of pow due Weds thru Thurs.

Well today was a lovely sunny day, and La Plagne is just fine almost everywhere.
You can ski down to Montalbert and Montachavin, though the pistes are a bit hard and slidy in the shade then slushy in the sun.
Lovely to see so many runs off Becoin and Cretes open.
Java, not been open for a lot of the season due (I think) to avalanche worries, has been open recently. However the drop-in today looked rather scary, so gave it a miss. (Trying out potential new skis was my excuse).
Gavotte was bliss. A huge open area either side of the piste full of untracked soft snow. Just perfick. Decided I quite like these K2 Mindbenders.
All the Champagny side lots of fun, though rather soft as you get down to the lifts.
Meant to be similar weather tomorrow (maybe bit warmer), then cold from Wednesday with snow . . . (with luck).

After a sunny&clouds morning a Storm was forecast for this afternoon.
It finally started snowing about 30 minutes ago, but the flakes are falling vertically, so hardly a storm.
Maybe the drama is being saved for later.

@Jonpim, Was the drop in for the marked piste of gavotte still extremely bumpy? When we did it on Saturday 21st the drop in was essentially a 50cm ledge drop to the first row of moguls, so we proved our cowardice and went round the much smaller bumps on the side of the piste.

Winter tires or sox / chains needed if you're driving up this evening or tomorrow.
Roads are already like a white beach.
Tomorrow will be deluxe.
First lift is king.

Ruswit, it wasn't bumps that concerned me, but the overhang on the ledge you had to ski before starting down.
Been snowing on and off all night. It did get windy. Our balcony completely covered in snow.
Still snowing gently now. Just heard a couple of bangs.
Think there might be delayed opening of some lifts.

Oh dear, chocksaway, poor Bellecote getting bashed again.
Last year it was being trashed by a Dutch crowd.
Fortunately all quiet here in 1800.
And a trully wonderful day.
About a foot of fresh snow overnight.
Our first go up Arpette lift met with a Closed sign for Montchavin.
We went back down on lovely soft between piste fresh snow, so went up again for another go . . .
To find Montchavin link now open, so off we went to Les Arcs.
Great day. Mixture of weather and light. Pistes mostly near perfect - the odd hard slidy patches. Not too many people. Lots of between piste boot high fresh snow.
Staying cold, so should be good tomorrow.

Is it because it's all at bit elderly looking and not very pretty ( sorry to any Bellecote owners on here ) , that it has become a cheap uni style party venue ?

I hope she is suitably proud to have been barred from an entire resort, and for that still to be in place 3 decades later!

I believe so. I pre order last year and couldn't use our old ones for some reason. The ticket office just gave us new ones and took the old. See what happens this year as same situation.

Does anyone have any thoughts of where to pick up a cheap ski bag in La Plagne? A simple unpadded ski sleeve with carrying handle would be fine. Cheaper the better and would be happy with second hand.
