Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Last minute trip - anything worth considering

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I posted in the weather thread but will throw the question out to the wider hive mind:

Any particular region/resort worth consdering for a last minute trip ideally commencing sat 12th (but we could perhaps go earlier at a push) - I'd be flying with the kids (7 and 9 y/o) both of who are happy with greens and blues. We can live with sunny spring conditions but will prob pass if there will be no snow left or its going to be raining and/or very windy...

I can see Avios flights available to Geneva, Munich, Milan, venice, lyon (but not to innsbruck, salzburg, turin, grenoble, chamberry). We'd prob hire a car at the airport and drive.

Bonus points if your recommendation has an easter ski pass discount.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

@AliAfro, if you can postpone your departure until the 19th, see my posts in the EoSB thread and the Solo v Group forum, for a bargain for at least one of your party.

We're going to Tignes on the 12th so watching the weather like a hawk.

It looks like the present very mild weather will breakdown over the period 13-15 April with rain at first, but snow at altitude (v.high above 2600m). The snow line will descend to 2000m over the days following, 16-18 April. So if you're going to the Alps go high (Tignes or Val Thorens or similar).

With the current weather patterns, i'd actually recommend you waited for the week of the 19th which looks cooler and will benefit from the return of the snow. The breakdown is fairly widespread so the Swiss and Italian Alps will see similar (i'm not sure about Austria).

Good luck, have fun.

So - 19 April would be good and the EoSB is of course in Val Thorens.

I see on the weather thread you say you could go as early as this Tues April 8th. Best conditions (cooler and more recent snow) are presently in the far east of the Alps. Go high as well. Obertauern for example.

If you're chasing fresh snow and the best conditions, very surprisingly, but benefitting from the current Siberian wind is the far east, Bulgaria and Romania (not everyone's first choice). They will stay cold with new snow at times this coming week. Also cool with fresh snow are the resorts of the far North, Are in Sweden or the Finnish lapland resorts (Levi, Yllas, Ruka, Pyha).

Edit- I note only Bansko remains open in Romania and Bulgaria.

I'd recommend heading to high-altitude resorts like Tignes or Val Thorens. These places should have good snow coverage even as the weather warms up, with the snow line dropping as the days progress. If you're looking for a discount, keep an eye out for Easter ski pass deals, especially in the Alps.

Alternatively, if you're open to a bit of adventure, places like Obertauern in Austria or resorts in Eastern Europe (like Bansko in Bulgaria) are also great choices for fresh snow, though they might not be as well-known for family-friendly vibes.

The 19th could be an even better option if you're looking for colder conditions and more snow, but if you're eager to go sooner, high-altitude spots are your best bet.

@AliAfro, can you get Avios flights to Barcelona? Here in Andorra we have plenty of snow to last the last week of the season. It’s been warm and spring like this week but it should cool a bit next week with some snow midweek.

Bansko closes this weekend and its been a bit patchy lower down. Austria and Switzerland still look good - I've just come back from Stubai valley which still looks good. I'd also give somewhere like Glacier 3000 a shot if I were going now...

Thanks all - I can see there is still some snow about but it was the rain that was putting me off... although some of the forecasts seem to be improving in that regard...

Nah - Haven't booked anything yet... Last time I looked there was a general outlook of grey / rainy week (commencing Sat 12th) across the alps, at least the bits I could get to with flight options available to me.

Back then I decided to leave it a week and look again - It does now look as if the forecasts have changed a bit and its looking to be a bit more of a mix bag next week with some lower temperatures and perhaps a bit more snow and a bit less rain...

@AliAfro, I think @KSH,s place on the EoSB is still available and the forecasts for VT are looking promising.

@adithorp Thanks - Ideally I was looking to go this coming week with my son (on his Easter break) - taking @KSH's place is a tempting fallback option (have never done a bash, maybe this is natures way of nudging me?).
