Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Guys' week, March 7th, where to go?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello everyone,

We are four guys, intermediate snowboarders, looking for a European resort that offers plenty of slopes to enjoy for a week, along with great après-ski activities and restaurants. We're hoping to find a place that's not too expensive.

Our current top choices are Val Thorens St. Anton or maybe Tignes. Are there any other resorts we should consider?

Thanks in advance!

Sauze d'Oulx may fit the bill.

Pas De La Casa in Andorra is worth considering: Definitely cheaper compared to your current options, has lots of Apres (tax free booze) and is high up and snow sure... Its not particularly pretty and there's not loads for experts, but it has 215km of runs which should be plenty. Lots of snow parks and boarder cross but not particularly renowned for powder.

@hendrix911, welcome to SH's.

Your brief is pretty wide.

Define "expensive". The 3 resorts you mention are not cheap.

Austria regarded as best for friendliness & apres, Italy for grooming (pistes) & food. Naturally this is a gross generalisation.

Having recently returned, I would definitely recommend Grandvalira. Pistes are great, relatively cheap and some good apres. Milky Way resorts are decent too.

@hendrix911, St. Anton, VT and Tignes are not cheap but it depends on your definition of cheap.

Pas De La Casa would def suit you if value is important, ski area perfect for intermediates, €3-4 euro pints a plenty there.

Mayrhofen is also a great party town which would be better value than VT/Tignes, St A

I'm not looking for the cheapest options, but I'd rather not go for the most expensive ones either. I'm aiming for good value Smile

Out of the Austrian resorts I've been to, Saalbach has the best spread of apres options IMO - places with the usual schlager classics, live music bars, sports bar.

What sort of apres are you after @hendrix911,?

I didn't know there were different kinds, I like the ones that you get drunk in Smile
Is Saalbach snow sure in early March?

@hendrix911, quite apart from the Ski Circus having one of the best snow-making infrastructures in Europe, the snow record is pretty decent and early March is highly unlikely to be a problem….usual caveats nothwithstanding!

Oh, and the Apres options in Saalbach cater to most requirements from a casual, relaxed and quiet drink or two, post-skiing, to caning it well into the wee hours Toofy Grin

@hendrix911, it sounds like riding and apres are top of your agenda (as is our boys trips) so with that in mind Austria is your destination. Tignes and Val T are great but they don't have that certain how you say Je ne sais quoi lol!!

Saalbach, st Anton, solden are the top picks.
