 Poster: A snowHead

Hi all, we are thinking about a last minute holiday to one of these resorts and are stuck with a 19th April - 26th April window due to work commitments.
Last year we did Val Thorens which was great for snow conditions but we thought about Tignes this year as prices seem better value with more accommodation available - we are just a bit concerned on snow conditions that late in the season.
My partner is still a beginner with only 2 holidays under their belt (and didn't ski every day on these) so I would hope for some nice cruising style runs for them.
I know Tignes has the glacier but I'm worried they may struggle with challenging runs surrounding it.
Which would you choose at this time of year? Any advice is more than welcome as I keep changing my mind from one resort to the other when reading past posts on here!

@K2Punk, Either really, but there is an easy blue run from the top of the Grand Motte Funicular, a beginner mate did it on the last day of his first week. There are lots of cruisy blues around Tignes and Val - just study the piste map before you set off. If you do choose Tignes pick Lavachet, Lac or Val Claret - I would avoid Boisses 1800 and Brevieres 1550 at that time of year.

@K2Punk,
Most of 3 Valleys shuting on 21st April this season. Espace Killy will be open (snow permitting) on your dates.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Kenzie, That's useful information. I'd have assumed that the likes of Courchevel would stay open until the end of the week (like Les Arcs) but see they are closing immediately after the Easter holiday. Open on the Monday, closed on the Tuesday.

@K2Punk, both are great and you'll get recommendations from SH's on their favourite, doesn't necessarily mean it's right for you.
Presonally, I think the choice is between whether you want to go back to the same area for the second time - you'll hit the ground running, no getting up to speed on where the supermarket is or which runs are suitable or your favourite. Your partner will also have the confidence of knowing certain runs, and also getting the buzz of getting better on them and the progressing onto runs they didn't so last time. For me, the second time I go to a ski area is my favorite.
Or you go for the buzz of going somewhere completely new, and the excitement of discovering new runs, new restaurants, and a whole new resort.

Its been over ten years since ive been Tignes/Val but I think I do remember it was quite cruisy around the glacier - stayed in val Claret last time too.
Noted on avoiding the lower areas and thank you for the good advice

Thank you for the info but I would be looking at Val Thorens again which I believe is open the latest at 4th May - this obviously limits us just to VT (and possibly Orelle?) but i'm okay with this with a beginner in tow!
Les Arcs and La Plagne are options too and open 19-26 April IIRC
Thank you for the info!

I think you have made a brilliant comment about the familiarity of going to a resort a second time in that, just knowing where things like supermarkets and amenities are can vastly improve enjoyment of the trip and this is the main reason i'm looking at VT and La Plagne/Les Arcs as those were our last 2 trips.
We do tend to use Bens Bus that is cheaper than most transfers but this year the service ends early for LP/LA which hits our budget to go with another - it looks available for VT that week.
The second time to a resort is always a great feeling and new resorts do make me a little anxious the first time!

By the time you're there, the skiing in Tignes an Val d'Isere is 2-3 times what is available in 3V.
In top of that, Tignes and Val have a much larger proportion over 2000 metres.

Oh I see! I thought it was fully booked but it looks like there could be a few places in a different hotel?
Would the cost be simply the £611 x2 if me and my partner shared a room?

I always find it quite tricky to estimate the amount of pistes available from resort to resort but thats good to know about Tignes/VDS although i'm not sure if we would make it worthwhile with just a day when my partner is feeling brave!
The beginner slopes in VT were at the bottom of busy areas which put her off a bit last year but I can't remember what they were like in Tignes lower down.

I'm pretty sure that's right and that includes lift passes. As you'll see from the EoSB opening information, admin also arranges transfers to and from Geneva at a very reasonable price (less than Ben's Bus) so long as you flights align with the stated timings.
The other apartments are literally just across the piste from the Oxalys. I've not been in there but it looks pretty swanky.

@K2Punk, I'm not sure what is still available (it looks to me as though "cosy double" might well be) - the best way to find out would be to fill in the form and see if any options meet your needs - there's no commitment until you get to the end
Depends really on whether you'ld be comfortable sharing an apartment or whether the two of you would prefer a "cosy double" just to yourselves somewhere. Many of us went into our first EoSB trusting in Blind Faith and have made lasting friendships.

I think some people who've stayed there prefer the Hashmir.
