Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Line Bacon (115) 188cm Binding Mounting Position

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Dear Snowheads,

My very well used Salomon Rocker 2s 115 (188cm) are falling apart and I have bought a pair of 188cm Line Bacons 115 as a replacement pair of skis (they were very cheap.) I am no switch rider or butter turning new schooler, but the skis get blinding reviews and were a great bargain. I will never be riding switch or hitting the park but I will be doing lots of off-piste with that in mind some binding mountain advice would be useful. My Salomon Rocker 2s have the binding a fair bit back - probably irrelevant.

Should I mount the binding further back from the recommended line (certainly not the centre line I am no jibber), as this mounting point I guess still allows switch and other such shenanigans none of which I will be doing. Would it be advantageous to push the bindings back a little from the recommended line or not for my uses, if anybody has experience with this then that would be great.

Thank you in anticipation SHs.

Mount demo bindings then you can play around?

Otherwise a bunch of us played with mounting points on a similar sized ski the prototype Whitedot ASBO (Altum 114) one EOSB. There was definitely a difference - I favoured I think @thedoc's point (as designer) as it made everything more lively and fun while others preferred the SAGA mount further back which gave a more trad feel. I'd be inclined for funz to not second guess the recommended line.

I don't think it's about not skiing switch or buttering really but more whether you exploit the skis shape to the max for carves, bumps, pivoting in trees etc.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I am probably completely overthinking it all or miss thinking it!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've had 2 pairs of 108 Bacon's.

I too am no park rat Very Happy . The first pair I mounted as recommended: great fun and very forgiving. The second pair were mounted @ 50mm back of centre. Still great fun but a smidge more stable and a slight improvement in the deep(ish) stuff. On balance preferred them back a bit, but not by much Blush

Enjoy Cool

@fatbloke, cheers for that, I emailed Line/K2 about this and my skiing and they suggest me going 1-2cm back from recommended which would be -5-6cm from centre which is what you suggest in your reply! Thank you,
