Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Late trip to Oz

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am planning a trip to Oz an Oisans for better or worse at the end of March/First week of April this year. Wanted to pick the snowheads collective brain.
Plan is to stay in Oz with family, dog and few friends in our own chalet and use the gondela (Poutran 1 & 2?) to get into Alpes D'Huez ski area during the day for a few hours. Coming back of course to feed and walk doggins a bit later (fear not, we wouldn't intend to leave her for long). Looks as though the gondolas take around 10 mins each to ascend? Presumably you can descend them also to get back to Oz?
Also given that its a bit later in the year being base in Oz will work well for said dog walks as looks as though there are a few hiking trails and the lower snow will have melted?

Wonder if any other folks here can help me validate this plan? Never been to Alpes D'Huez or Oz so happy to take some advice. (Is this plan totally stupid and wasting my time?)

Few questions
Late on in the season do you think the restaurants might be open? Hows about the supermarket? Will we be entering a ghost town?
Snow. I am an intermediate snowboarder and can do red runs fine, my wife is more beginner/intermediate but can do linked turns and blue runs fine. Does the snow hold up this late on?
Car parking. I am planning on driving from the UK. Can see that Oz itself is 'car free' but there are both free car parks and also some underground car parking. Could not find how to pre-book the underground one though? Happy to take some advice here too.

Sounds like a reasonable plan to me.

To answer some of the specific questions, yes you can download in the Poutran lifts back to Oz.

The village itself is unlikely to be snow-covered at that time, but it's far from impossible if there are some late dumps. That's the big unknown of course. You've always got the Eau d'Olle Express gondola that would take you down to Allemont in just under 10 minutes if not, which at a height of about 750m is almost certain to be clear. I assume they allow dogs in that lift in winter, but I can't say for certain I'm afraid so you might need to check that.

There will still be a couple of weeks of the season left, so I would expect the village to be operating almost as normal, with restaurants, bars and shops all open. Definitely not a ghost town, although it's never the most lively of places to be honest. For example, the supermarket says it is open until 20th April (according to https://www.oz-en-oisans.com/winter/offers/mon-super-marche-sherpa-oz-en-winter-2795296/). Similarly for the bakery (at https://www.oz-en-oisans.com/winter/offers/josserands-bakery-oz-en-winter-2795152/). They might start running stocks low at the very end of the season, but I'd be surprised if it starts when you're going (and disappointed, as we're going the week after you're talking about!).

I can't help about the parking, but you could ask the tourist information office (via https://www.oz-en-oisans.com/winter/offers/free-carpark-oz-en-winter-2795206/). Where are you staying? Some of the apartments have underground parking included so you might want to check if that's the case.

Have a great time!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Lots of easy slopes into AdH from the Pootrain for low intermediates. Possibility of doing a big shop too in Bourg as it really isn't that far from Allemont.

Did Oz at easter last year, so end of March - loved it, trip report here > https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=169128&highlight=

The Sherpa shop in the village was open, no issues, although typically it's not the cheapest. We did the big shop at Vizelle near Grenoble and just used the little shop for top ups on essentials and beer.
Runs back into the village were getting slushy but we did get some warm temps; further up at the mid-station and the higher area above Vaujany and Signal above ADH, saw was perfect.
Car parking is plentiful; loads of places to dump in the free car park although if you're in the chalets opposite the shops then it;'s a bit of a schlep up stairs (but there is a lift next to the big wooden hotel)

We did a fair bit of heading back to the chalet for lunch and it was easy; some skied down the red/blue combos, others down lifted in the gondola and it never felt like too much of a bind.
