He isn't and though he does the majority of his boarding in Canada it isn't necessarily all lift served. Plus y'know Canadians are generally nicer and more considerate than Amerikins eh?

@abc, I am already convinced that you are nasty little piece of work as you take every opportunity to add unpleasant (and often ignorant) little comments. But feel free to say whatever you want to and about me, as I really could not care less if I tried.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I also though get annoyed with the over aggressive and quick slamming down of the bar we get a lot in Europe. My helmet has saved me more times in that scenario than from actual skiing. |
At the end of Covid, there’s a huge influx of Euros skiing in the big US/Canadian resorts, I’ve observed that A LOT more than before!
Because I often use the single’s line, there were many times I was waved forward at the last minute to join a chair. So I had to hustle to get into position, sometimes barely. As I was occasionally late to get myself sorted on the chair as it leaves the loading zone, I bore the brunt of those anti-social early bar slamming behavior from our cross-pond visitors. Once or twice, I had to scream “WAAAIIIIT!!!” more than once. I saw it once the quick slamming of the bar knocked one passenger off the chair in front of me! Never mind the countless dislodge poles and skis.
Chair with foot rest are the worst in that regard. Once initiated, they literally come crashing down, trapping tall people’s skis and whacking them on their knee!

Irony? Ad hominem? After your post full of rather personal comments about me.
I am not going to stoop to your level of abuse. But thanks for playing.

Just show how folks can grab the wrong end of a ski pole

I refuse to take that even when offered politely, although usually it's offered ironically, as they know I don't need poles.
I'll dig them out of the snow for fallen skiers if I don't mind stopping where they fall. Silly pointless things: they ought to learn balance.
My previous point was more that if you have trouble with North American chair lift etiquette then the solution to that lies with you, and it's probably not an isolated problem.
The poster might have gained more from asking how to do it effectively - I provided what I thought was a suggestion - rather than complaining that North American lifts are unusable.

Kind of silly discussion.
My condolences to family and friends !
Uphill transportation is suffering some serious issues, be it in NA or Europe.
Scale it up if interested and make of it what you want !
If anybody wants to experience spring skiing in NA - head to Sierras ! CA Baby !!!
Corn (hero) snow !

There was no mechanical issue with the chair. The rider was reading this thread and jumped.

My friend, I do not know what caused this tragic incident ...
Uphill transportation had it's fair share of unfortunate incidents this season ... be it faulty lift, rowdy crowds, old infrastructure, corporate greed, lack of snow, personal negligence - you name it ! Too many incidents and some with tragic outcomes.

Yeah, but…
He wouldn’t have been able to jump…
…had there been a safety bar, more significantly a certain snowhead sharing the chair insist on pulling it down, despite any resistance…

I wonder if the recent spate of lift accidents have raised this in the public consciousness: I have just returned from 2 weeks skiing in Utah and after over 20 years of not skiing in the USA, it came back quite quickly that restraints aren't the norm. I just gave polite notice on lowering and raising the bar, no different to Europe so you don't hit someone's head. I didn't experience any negativity. However I had forgotten a couple of 2-person chairlifts that didn't have bars at all and that unnerved me as they definitely weren't skimming the ground, but not enough to avoid as the runs were brilliant (Alta)!
