Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where to go this weekend - Chamonix or Courmayeur

 Poster: A snowHead

Hello - first time poster Smile

Hoping to fly last minute to Geneva this weekend to meet up with a friend in either Chamonix or Courmayeur. We're relatively confident intermediates - enjoy skiing well groomed pistes (+ will tackle blacks but don't seek them out!)

Wondering whether Chamonix or Courmayeur would be a better bet this weekend (Sun-Tues/Wed) from a snow point of view, quality of piste bashing etc. And we enjoy a few apres beers, but it's not a huge deal.

If anyone has recommendations it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Oh and at a push we could maybe go as far as Cervinia

I don't think there's a lot in it re snow on pistes. Courmayeur looked to have more snow lower than Chamonix when we drove past Monday/Tuesday. Weather forecast not amazing so maybe Courmayeur wins on lunches when the wx is crap?

@under a new name, knows the resorts way better than I do but based on my experience in both with the description of your skiing I'd be inclined to head to Courmayeur.

Thanks @under a new name + @T Bar - would it be worth pushing on for somewhere like Cervinia?

@Happyamateur1, If the weather is iffy Cervinia is pretty much above the tree line and it's not the first place I'd head.

La Thuile seems to be reporting good snow at the moment and has very good intermediate skiing and excellent food.

If weather is good then I'd definitely pick Cervinia ... and I was in Courmayeur last week.

Another vote for Courmayeur — perfect for a weekend for intermediates and the blacks are fine too. Great food and pleasant après

Thanks all - based on this thread, it sounds like staying in Courmayeur might be the best bet as it looks like there are regular buses from there to both Chamonix and La Thuile (both 30-45 mins away). So we could choose where to ski each morning based on weather and snow conditions and hop on the bus to wherever looks promising for the day?

All the feedback is really appreciated Blush

I’d probably say not chamonix. If you want lots of piste skiing. Have skied Cham/courmayeur and La thuile. Probably say courmayeur or La thuile for that sort of skiing. Though La thuile gets caught out with wind sometimes - as cervinia does.
