Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Can you get to Avoriaz from prodains not using the cable car?

My partner is claustrophobic and so hates cable cars. When we went to PDS a while back you could get a chairlift up from Prodains to Avoriaz area but now it seems that has gone. Is Prodains the only option or can you use Proclou from the Prodains car park area?

Thanks for your help.

All the obvious routes up to Avoriaz start with a gondola (Prodains, Ardent, Super Morzine). I suppose you could drive up and then get around on only chair lifts or start on the Swiss side or From Chatel.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You used to be able to park at the top of the Super Morzine/bottom of Zore just off the hairpin if I remember right. It’s then a minute or two walk to Zore chair. You’d need it to be running though of course and either pistes open or downloading to get back to the car.

There is a restaurant halfway between the super morzine side and the chairs into Avoriaz. If you take the road from Morzine to Avoriaz you can't miss it. There is a car park across the road and the restaurant is on the ski run to/from Morzine/Avoriaz (think it's called Farm Seraussaix). Although the link in at Zore is also a good start the car parking can be a pain.

Not sure how long ago you'd have had to have gone for a chair lift from Prodains. Certainly the last 12 years it's only been the gondola and so far as I'm aware before the current, multi-cabin 3S gondola it was the old, two cabin 3S gondola? And unless you've got climbing gear and a very long rope there's no way to get from Prodains to Proclou as the car park's at the bottom of the cliff around 1,200m and Proclou's up on the top around 1,660m Smile.

Your options are:
1) Accept the Prodains gondola. It's right there and has the largest of the the gondola cars but those cars can get very rammed at peak times.

2) Accept the Adrent gondola. Means a bus (free) down the valley to Morzine, change to another bus (free) up the Ardent valley. Has cars 25% or less the size of the Prodains ones but a lot quieter and is the 'purch around the edge' design so can feel less confined.

3) Accept the Super-Morzine gondola. Means a bus (free) down the valley to Morzine but the smallest, '6 people sat facing each other' cards that always feel quite snug.

4) Drive. Down the valley from Prodains to Morzine, then up the hill to Avoriaz. That's either your own car (then you having to drive back down/around to Prodains and gondola back up to do it again) or a bus to Morzine (free)/taxi up to Avoriaz (very much not free).

5) Zore chair. Bus (free) into Morzine then taxi (not free) or own car (that then needs to be repositioned) up the road to the appropreate bend on the D338. You can then walk 150m to the bottom of the Zore chair.

6) Join Seraussaix Run. Bus (free) into Morzine then taxi (very not free) or own car (that then needs to be repositioned) to the cheese farm, a slight scramble over the snow and join the run at the tunnel under the road to Avoriaz. Certainly if using a taxi probably not much cheaper than...

7) Drive. Either own car all the way (and reposition), taxi all the way (very not free), or bus into Morzine/taxi (very not free) up to Avotiaz.

Or of course just avoid skiing down to either Prodains or Ardent!

Wow thanks for the awesome advice everyone. It has actually been ages since we were last there but it didn't feel like it when I wrote that. Thanks so so much for making it all very clear Mjit, that was more than I could ask for and really makes it clear what the options are.

Thanks again, could not have asked for more.

You can’t take Proclou directly from the Prodains car park, but you could try taking the bus up to Avoriaz instead of the cable car. It’s a good option for someone who’s claustrophobic.

Umm, IS there a bus that goes all the way to Avoriaz by road?

The resort buses only run the the cable cars and the Aulps buses the Thonon valley/around to Les Gets to the best of my knowledge.

Proclou is on the route from the Super Morzine lift, not the Prodains lift. I also agree with @Mjit that there isn't a resort bus that goes up to Avoriaz, so I don't think that's an option.
