Hi all, we're due to fly out to the Dolomites this Saturday, and we've caught wind that there are planned general strikes.
Does anyone have any local input as to whether they'll likely go ahead, whether they'll be as wide-sweeping as the articles say, or is it clickbait?

Looks like it’s genuine. Plus there’s a baggage handlers & air traffic control strike on Sun 16th too. Bit of a p*sser as we’re off to Turin on Sunday, retuning on the 16th. Aaarrrgghhh

Hi All
I think this a totally impossible question to answer but I'll ask it anyway! We are due to fly to Grenoble from LGW on the 16th March 2025 and then transfer to Pragelato. I'm assuming the strikes are possibly going to impact on inbound flights and aircraft movements in adjacent air spaces ie France? If so I do have the option to load up the car and have a road trip to avoid any potential airport chaos.

Perhaps you'll get an idea by seeing if there's any carnage with the first strike on the 8th.. I'm hoping Grenoble's not affected, as I've just bought a 20 quid Grenoble flight as backup in case there is any trouble with my Turin flight on Sat

Dunno. From a bit of googling, it seems like baggage handlers at Venice had a strike on Feb-28, so if that's "aviation services" maybe it's saying they won't take part in this one. Guess they'll be ready and waiting to handle all the planes that don't arrive...

Believe it or not, they have a strike calendar organized people of Italy https://scioperi.mit.gov.it/mit2/public/scioperi It looks like it is going ahead, Venice airport excluded

I plan to wait close to the date, and then if it is canceled, I could move the date to Friday or Sunday for free, my flight with Ryanair to Turin. Obvious risk: everyone would be doing the same and might be no seats available, while if you move voluntarily now as a precousion you pay the hefty change fee with ryanair, I belive it is 110 GBP per person per flight for Ryanair and 50-60 GBP with easyjet

Do people think this strike is likely to affect flights to neighbouring countries?

 You know it makes sense.

I'm flying to Grenoble on the 16th March. Obviously baggage handling not an issue and possibly not the air traffic control 4 hour strike but planes in the wrong place ie not able to leave the ground in Italy and possibly additional flights passing through French airspace might be. Going to see what happens this Saturday 8th March when there is a general strike in Italy - see how that affects flights. If things look ropey I might have to resort to driving out instead.

I messaged Crystal, admittedly only asking about my specific dates & for Turin only. This was their reply
“ ……….The query was escalated to the operations team based on outbound departures for the 9th March and Inbound of 16th March, so the above information still applies; only trade unions taking part and none of which are employees at Turin so no disruption to transport has been reported.
Our teams work very closely with those in-resort and should this change, we would be in touch either by telephone or email to update you immediately.”
Hhmmmm, I guess time will tell. Crystal don’t have the best reputation when it comes to crisis management so I think a bag of snacks will be prepared.

I phoned TUI this morning as we have a flight only return from Verona to Bristol on Saturday 8th March. They seemed to be blissfully unaware of the existence of the strikes at the moment. Waiting to hear what they say.

From the link above, strikes on the 8th exclude air transport except for the USI-CIT Union. Their website though has no mentions of the strike.

they are not super quick on publishing news; their report from a general strike on November 29th was only published on December 11, as an example https://www.iclcit.org/usi-takes-part-in-general-strike/
Would be good to check with Flightradar24 or similar if that strike back in November actually led to flight cancelation.

Spoke to TUI and they say that they have a note on their system from last week that says something along the lines of no airports that crystal packages operate from are affected and their flights will be going ahead as normal this Saturday. We're not on a crystal package but lots on our flight were. So we'll just have to turn up for the expected departure time and hope they're right......

Just waiting in departures at Milan Malpensa for flight home to Manchester and everything seems completely normal. Not a single flight on the departures board delayed or cancelled.

Good to hear. We’ve just boarded at Brum headed for Verona. All showing on time.
Much ado about nothing then!
