Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpe d'Huez??

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Having never been to Alpe d'Huez before - am wondering how conditions fair (yes I know slightly impossible question) compared to 3 Valleys / Paradiski / Val d'Isere in late March - which is where we would usually choose to go - but fancy a change of scenery?
Any comparisons / advice gratefully received please.
Thank you

Today was hard pack am, soft lower in the afternoon.

If it's cold, it will be fine. If not it will be slushy.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've been to all of those late season.

If you fancy a change it's a great option.

Stay in Oz though unless you want all the nightlife of ADH.

Personally I would not go to Alpe d'Huez late March as it is south facing so very sunny. We have been there 3 times and each time the snow was poor. Have been to 3V over 50 times - that should say it all. 3V is the only area I don't get bored as no matter the weather/snow there is always somewhere to ski.

Many thanks for replies - very helpful.
Not interested in night life - as long as theres a decent bar before returning to chalet!

@mogulski, I could not agree more with 3V - we skied there in Jan so just fancied a change, and like you have skied many many weeks there - definitely cannot beat it for clocking up miles, which we like to do.

@Dippy, to give you an idea this is a TR for a late season trip in 2017

We've stopped going to ADH because we'd been 4 times with the kids and a couple of times before and kind of got bored with it. It's definitely not as repeatable as 3V or Pardiski for me. Nevertheless, I still like it, especially Oz and the ski area. And I wouldn't rule out going again at some point.

@Layne, Thank you very much - very useful! Not sure ADH would be the best choice for late March, so may stick with either Val d'Isere or Paradiski - no rush to book as plenty of offers around at mo, so will see how weather is looking.

@Dippy, we went at Easter last year, so last week of March - trip report here >> https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=169128&highlight=

I'm with @Layne, Oz is a superb place to go; a couple of good bars (one that does aBIG selection of Belgian stuff) and it's easy to get to. The snow was starting to go mushy on the last day for us but it's 10 mins up on the gondola to much higher areas that give access to a lot of terrain. Only reason we're not going again this year is because we fancied trying L2A, otherwise we'd go, as it's dead cheap for accommodation.

This was the condition on our second day - tons of fresh stuff:

I went to Oz today, it didn't look like that!
I also went to the Vaujany lift mid station.
Some new runs for me.
4th year here early March and never been able to ski that low before.
I think I've now skied every run except a couple of blacks.
