Heading to La Rosiere for the first time next week - have accom and ski hire sorted. We're s/c in La Rosiere central and will prob cook most nights but a recommendation for one night out would be good. Like to stop for the odd coffee and quick lunch on mountain. Ski wise, we're a confident intermediate and more timid intermediate. Thinking of getting separate lesson(s) at beginning of week. End of day beer somewhere lively would be good!
Any tips you can share, for these things or anything else, would be most welcome!
Thanks

Been to La Ros a few times, but not for a while. The Moo Bar used to be a good place for an Apres beer. We will be there next week as well 14 of us

If you want coffee/lunch head to LaThuile. Just make sure you're fully wrapped up before getting on the first poma on the way. If it's still in the shade and/or there's any wind; it can be flipping cold!
And since when were you an intermediate?

I know, Adi, I should put myself down as beginner - slithering not skiing down those icy runs into La Daille. But then I got some boots that actually fit - big shout out for Ski Bartlett in Hillingdon - superb service! - turns out I was skiing in boots that were 2 sizes too big (prob bought them because they were warm!) and now am quite happy on icy runs - who'd uv thunk it???!!!
But thank you for the vote of confidence, and thanks for the tips so far.

I get that, but just wondered if that was a sweeping statement or boots on ground report of current conditions.

Probably a long shot on this thread but worth a try.
How easy is it for a pedestrian/non skier to get to L'Antigel? I believe, from maps that its about half way up/down the Tetras blue run (home)?

L'Antigel is all up hill from the base. We saw quite a few ski walkers in the area, but it would be a trek. The Roche Noire Chair would take you a long way above L'Antigel and it would be a long walk down. There are two buttons that could take you part way up, but no use to a pedestrian. In short - it's going to be a tough walk, I estimate around 1km at the side of a piste.

I personally prefer French food so have tended to eat on the French side. I like L’Antigel and the piste side restaurant of Hotel Alparena.
It is possible to get to L’Antigel on pedestrian/snow shoe trails I think but double check in resort. This would be walking up from resort level. I think I did it once. However definitely stick to the marked trails.
It used to be the case that you had to ski a red to get over to Italy but I believe there is a new chairlift less confident skiers can download on. You would still have to do at least one long drag lift after that.

All pretty much spot on. You should have a good week Roscoe - started snowing about 4.30pm today, and was quite heavy by 7ish.
One thing to consider for groups who have any cautious intermediates in the party: the reds vary wildly between easy blue and red/black. Sections of Mont Valaisan and Moulins, for example, are more black than red, I'd say - steep and narrow (and moguly when I was there). To access La Thuile, red Bouquetin was OK if not crowded, but at times there'd be 30 or 40 people jostling for space on the narrowest part. Anyone who wants to avoid that can download on the Chardonnet chair. (Even if fence across, ask the liftie, and when you see the drop off you'll be glad you did!) Didn't find the long drag too bad, about 6 mins. Other lifts the Rosiere side are more exposed. Tip: always wear a buff! This is a very windy resort. With spectacular views!
Tourist office puts on masses of activities for all ages, some fee-paying, some free. Today there was archery and marshmallow toasting at the 'front de neige', yesterday a hours intro to ski touring for €15 included equipment and tuition.

Thanks @Jude1
Looks like the weather will be perfect for me with snow until Sunday then bluebird days from Monday onwards!
Would definitely want to get over to La Thuile at some point, roughly how long is the full journey? We'll have children in ski school that we'll have to collect at a certain time so would need to plan it into our day.

Allow about an hour to get back from the Les Suches area of La Thuile, Roscoe, e.g.taking the Chaz Dura Express. You then ski down to get the Belvedere chair (slow!) then a long gentle ski down alongside the Bellecombe drags to the Chardonet chair. Even when you get to the ridge of Chardonet/Fort, you've still got to ski down to get one more lift to get high enough to ski down to La Rosiere. This could be Plan de Repos (about 5 mins from top down to La Ros), or the Les Eucherts chair (bit longer to get to, but drops you a bit closer to La Ros). If you're meeting the kids in Les Eucherts, you can prob do it in about 45 mins. Have a great week!
This is the terrain looking towards Les Eucherts from the Chardonet/Fort ridge.

Have done the La thuile- La rosiere during ski school hours. Sure it will be fine the other way. I like this linked ski resort, it’s a bit of a gem IMO. Not too busy and some good piste skiing. I really love the view down to La rosiere as well. I remember it fondly.

@Jude1, from what I recall you don’t have to take the Belvedere chair to get back to La rosiere. I think you can ski down to the piccolo lift instead and then down to the chardonet.
