 Poster: A snowHead
|
Flying into Grenoble on Friday 14th March and would like to get to the Train station in Grenoble centre to collect a hire car. I'm looking at the Altus website and insofar as I can tell they don't run on Fridays. Before I commit to an expensive pre-booked taxi does anyone here know if this is indeed the case?
TIA

@LukeRibs, might be an off the wall suggestion but... ask them?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Why not hire at the airport?

I dimly recall a discussion about there being no car hire place at the airport.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

There is or I hope there is as I've a booking and am hiring in a few weeks. Although prices appear cheaper in Grenoble city itself but not worth hassle with alot of luggage need to load car once and drive.

@Peter Ross, There are car hire options at the airport but it's €500 for a decent size SUV with chains and tyres, and the same vehicle is €200 from the train station in the centre of town.
@Peter Ross, There's only two of us to split the cost of the car hire so I'd like to see if I can chip the cost a bit. If there was another one or two members of the party the cost difference would be small enough I'd just book.
@holidayloverxx, I did - a couple of days ago and I'm waiting on an email reply. I've looked at their socials and they don't appear to have been updated since 2018, so I was hoping someone on here might have some 'on the ground' knowledge as they so often do.

The Altus website allows you to book any day other than Wed or Fri. It’s a bit curious as there are a similar number of flights on all weekdays.

@chocksaway, Yes - and some other websites (Ben's Bus) say the buses are regular every day in the season. So I'm just wanting to be sure before I travel / spend loads of cash on a rental from the airport.

@skitow, Cheers man - we’ll be hauling double ski bags, so not really a workable option.
Think between the cost and the faff, it’s gonna be a case of renting a motor from the airport tbh.
So unless the bus company come back to me in the next couple of days and confirm the buses are actually running I’m going to just bite the bullet and rent from the airport.

@LukeRibs, No problem. Bus services at Grenoble airport have always been strange. Presumably because it is really only a sort of part time airport.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@LukeRibs, is it not worth a taxi if its only 30 minutes walk? It can't cost that much

@holidayloverxx, you’d think that taxi would be cheap wouldn’t you? But I’ve asked 4 local firms for a quote via email and nobody has bothered coming back to me. The automatic quoting sites I’ve looked at are coming back with insane figures in some cases €1,000+. I’ve seen there’s Uber locally, but they won’t quote in advance for including a ski bag…
I think I’m just going to stop going round and round and just swallow the cost of renting a car directly from the airport.

 You know it makes sense.

Uber works fine from Grenoble airport, used with ski bags last year no issues, think it was just an estate car with half a seat down
