@Flipjango, we have literally just got home from a week at Haus Susanne and would also recommend this. Ben and Ange are lovely and welcoming and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there on my own.
As another option for lessons, I had a few private lessons with the local Radstadt ski school. They offer a 1.5 hour "early bird" lesson from 8.30 to 10am for €100 and you can get a 5% discount for booking online in advance. I really liked Radstadt for being an unintimidating size and relatively quiet most of the time and my instructor Marcell was very good with my middle-aged mum being outskied by her kids confidence crisis (although I'm not sure he'll be there next year as he moves about). I'm sure the ski school would recommend someone suitable if you explain what you are trying to achieve.

I think it's the lessons that would be ruinous to go for a weekend on my own. To make it worth my while I'd be wanting as a minimum to do 2 hours of lessons a day for 4 days. I don't think a couple of hours on 2 days is enough to make it worth bothering - if I was only doing that much,I may as well just wait for the next family holiday. The cheapest I can find is about £70 an hour so i'd be looking at around £500 for lessons to do it privately. As far as I can see, there are no ski schools that offer weekend courses so I could join a group.

I thought your biggest problem had been not able to find lessons during the busy period when you were going with your family? 2 (or 3) days may not sound a lot, but a good instructor can do wonders in identifying your particular issue and get you over that hump.
A 4 day course would allow the instructor to “deconstruct” bad habits and rebuild it properly. Great for people who got stuck on the “intermediate plateau”. But that didn’t sound like is your problem, yet. Though I may have read it wrong.
In any case, most of those 4 day courses are more than £500. And you still have to get yourself to the mountain by yourself. So the cost is no less. Yes, you’re getting a lot more instruction. But it will most likely cost more than the cost of doing it private.

A small supportive and quiet group is all I could cope with. I'm not into bars and small talk and the idea of walking into a large group of strangers literally leaves me in a cold sweat. |
You would like to hang out with the same group that you’re having lesson with, for no more than 4 days, and not quite up to the level of the Warren Smith 2 day course. Sounds to me it’s the Ski Goddess course and nothing else. But I bet you can put together some private instructions for no more than the cost of that course. The key is finding a good instructor.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Flipjango, before you give up on ski goddess I would definitely call and speak to Katie as the website doesn’t always keep pace with who has committed and she loves to help where she can! But I believe she’s in Japan for another week or so.

@Flipjango, I'm wondering if part of the reason for you being "unlucky" with ski lessons is your choice of resorts for your holidays and going for non-standard weeks. (At least I think that's what you've done.) My guess is you'd be much better off at this stage booking a package with a UK tour operator, where they sort the lessons. I don't think having parents and kids in lessons at the same time on holidays with Crystalski etc is that unusual, so there should be lessons at your level and you can check that in advance. Somewhere like Passo Tonale could work.
As others have suggested, don't rule out trying the Inside Out clinics at Hemel (if you're at all local to there). They're very different to the offering direct with the snow domes, with a high quality of instruction. They might even find that with a little bit of instruction in advance the Meribel long weekend would suit you.

Anyone attended a Snowcamps Europe course? The one run by Andy Rose.
There’s one on in Jan next year which I’m tempted by, however, also considering the Warren Smith offering in Cervinia.
I quite enjoy the Andy Rose podcast and his mate; Wauter. He also gets decent reviews. But just looking for any anecdotal experiences from Snowheads.
Keen to book asap before my wife says no.
