Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski from La Plagne to Tignes?

 Poster: A snowHead

Forgive this if its a stupid question but someone has asked me if it's possible to ski from La Plagne (or Paradiski in general) to Tignes? I've not heard of that but they seem confused.... TIA

On piste - No

Ski touring with some element of taxi/road transfer - Yes, but I think it is more normal to go in the other direction from Tignes to La Plagne. From Champagny it is uphill to the Col Du Palet which is in Tignes ski area.

On pistes you can get as far as Bourg st Maurice (using the funicular down). Then you’d need to take a bus to Tignes

This link shows you how close the resorts are, but that they're not linked. https://openskimap.org/#11/45.5006/6.8582

I've seen some talk that years and years back there was some grand vision to connect up the resorts but the creation of the Vanoise national park meant that went from pipe dream to impossibility.

@Montan, the closest to Tignes you can ski on piste from the Paradiski area is Villaroger. That’s about 15kms by road from Tignes.

@Montan, You can ski, off piste, (almost) in the other direction from Tignes via Le Col du Palet and then down to the back of La Plagne (Champagny-en Vanoise), which requires a short taxi/minibus ride from the X/C station. Then ski through Paradiski to Villaroger as @PeakyB says. Known as the Tarantaise Tour. Does not require touring kit, although some skating is involved. Used to be cheaper when there was a reciprocal deal with the lift passes.

One summer over 20 years ago Mrmogulski and I did a trek from Tignes to Champagny, Pralognan, Entre deux eaux refuge, Val d'Isere and back to Tignes over 4 or 5 days. We walked the whole way and I remember the first day was the longest. We went via Col du Palet and thought we would never get to Champagny. The next days were easier in comparison.
Skiing it in winter would be a completely different experience as there is quite a lot of climbing and we were on snow part of the time even in mid-summer.
