Afternoon,
Niche, but does anyone know where/if at all it is possible to rent a monoski in St Anton?
Cheers

Perhaps the museum?
Might be worth getting in touch with Jennewein Sports, Martin Jennewein himself often answers mails sent to the office@ address and if anyone knows he will.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@munich_irish, lifesaver - thank you v much for the recommendation! He got back to me quickly and they do have a monoski for hire. Hurrah!

Awesome. The late 80s style with parallel feet or have they long since moved on? Saw one in Avoriaz in 2019.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

t@Orange200, yeah exactly. They used to have straight edges back in the day but they now make them with a parabolic sidecut so they can carve. Quirky things but super fun

I think you'll find that some had reasonable side cuts even back then. Taper too. But not as big as modern versions, sure.

Saw one in Meribel a couple of weeks ago.
There's many reasons why they didn't catch on.

Faction have at least one in their test fleet in Austria this season, if you happen to see their tent up.

Best monoskier I ever saw was Paddy Ashdown the politician.
He really was good (on a monoski)

Have you tried sideways mono-boarding, it is a thing, but the name escapes me...

@Peter S, I here your rationale and fail to agree with any of it to tbh, starting with '...bored skiing'. Are Marco Odermatt or Lindsey Vonn bored with skiing? It's impossible to master skiing, there's always another level.
If you'd mentioned 80's themed or 'look like a tw@t day' I'd get it.

@Mollerski, A number of reasons:
1. I'm on a trip with intermediate skiers and don't know anyone in st Anton to go off piste with
2. I like mono-skiing
3. I don't like the faff of flats on a snowboard, nor do I enjoy it as much
I am by no means bored of skiing, but I will be bored of piste skiing and waiting a lot at the bottom of runs!
@Peter S, I rate the telemark suggestion, thanks - I mighty try and do that too. If I'd thought of that before I'd have been on a daily diet of split squats

Here's my mate collecting some new skis in Iceland the other season. He rips better than 99.5% of folk on two skis.
Saw a bunch of monos in Verbier and Ovronnayz last season, although those folk were still learning the art.

@halibut1, I'm shocked that you have any mates, given that they're so rubbish.

Very sad about Monoman. What a hero.
Just to polish off this thread, I did successfully manage to rent the mono in st Anton. Cheers for the help. €48 for the day but was worth every penny. I was apparently the only person to have rented it all season. Shame it's a dying art. I would post a video in here for any interested folks but not sure if that's possible.

Put it on YouTube or Vimeo, then drop their "embed code" here and it should work fine.
Set the "parental control level" to "safe for all audiences" or whatever it is, and then we don't need a sign-in to see it.
Expect mild and well meant critique on style
