Just got a date for daughters operation so we can fly somewhere in first week of March, from Lisbon.
What looks good now, considering snow levels and school holidays? Flights are cheaper to Munich or Milan, but I haven’t looked at accommodation... I did reserve something by Baqueira in case we couldn’t fly and had to drive, but now we can and I can cancel free. Family with late teens, we can all do reds even if wife likes to relax. I still like a bit of challenge even if I get humbled. I would really like a couple of private lessons at the start.
Anything looks good or terrible now?

Leaving snow aside, Italy probably better than France where it will still be school holidays.

@Orange200,
1.First week of March is Carnaval, one of the busiest weeks of the season, also in Italy.
2.That aside, most places in Austria are good currently. So Munich would be good.

But do Italians throng the resorts for "Carnevale"? My Italian grandson doesn't even have a full week off for Easter. He doesn't have any time off for Carnevale.

That week will be quiet in Andorra. We're off on the Monday but back working on Tuesday. Half terms will be finished with.

@Origen, Since when are Italian resorts reserved for Italians? E.g. Val Gardena is full of Germans, Austrians, Dutch and Scandi's
(and not mentioning the fact that Süd-Tirol to many locals should not be considered Italian....)

Yes, I guess there are times when Italians are a minority in Italian resorts! So second week of March better all round?

We take that week as it is school holidays, so we are stuck with it. Andorra has served us well for years but a change is now possible (and it was all booked up!). I’m aware of FR holidays, Dutch week in Austria; wasn’t sure about Italy but her school is going to Sauze again. She went once and wasn’t impressed, probably poor snow poor teaching and a bully ruined the experience.
But already I gather that snow has fallen, not “don’t come here it’s been really dry/warm” so thank you so far

It's the last week of French holidays, so only one region is off , and it isn't Paris.

@Orange200, it's not a full "Dutch" week, only the southern (catholic) provinces.
But definitely Bavaria, Austria, Nordrhine-Westphalia (Cologne)

France is busy that week if your used to empty resorts in Jan and later in March. But it is quiet compared to Feb.

Depends whether it's Paris hols - not this year, Paris is the fortnight ending 3 March.

 You know it makes sense.

We went to Serre Chevalier that corresponding week last year, flew to Turin quick easy transfer to SC. Slopes weren’t particularly busy even though last week of French school hols. Not sure what the snow is like there currently but we had a great time there and I will definitely return at some point.

I never considered flying to Italy to go to France! I can look at that, thanks. Is SC snow good, and is there a non hire car transfer like a shared bus?

Snow Cabs run from Turin to Montgenevre and Serre Chevalier, they were good for us, on time reasonable price shared transfer. I’d use them again.

At altitude, as a starter. Just statistically more likely. After that, I’ve always read the consensus in the forum to be that ideally, you’d just wait until close to the date and see how the conditions are.

With plane ticket prices and accommodation availability, this is about as close as I’d like to push it!
