Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Black runs in Corvara?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi… first time poster here. I’m arriving in Corvara in the dolomites with my 14 year old son and I’m wondering if anyone can recommend some more challenging runs in the area, ie blacks or interesting reds where we can dip into some not too hardcore off piste…I’ve heard the area is fairly gentle on the whole!

Gran Risa WC Super G run.
Vallon run top of Boe Gondola
A few blacks in Arabba, the next area on from corvara going clockwise round the sella ronda. Need the full superski pass for that and we'll worth it.

Thanks! Really helpful. We’ve got the super ski pass.

If you go anti clockwise from corvara there's a black piste from the top called Cir that's decent but not that challenging and then, now you're in val gardena, the Sasslong WC downhill piste, again nice but not a scary black.

@Degski, Hire a guide and hit some of the Freeride routes on the Marmalada.

@Degski, THe Gran Risa as Slider suggested. However, you will find it is one that everyone has scraped the grip off it early on. The red next to it is far more fun. I'd rather boot that one and grip than scrape on the Risa. Like I did last week. Happy

Col Pradat from Colfosco. Steeper run.

If you head to the Seceda area, the Free Fall Cisles can be fun. Access off the Col Raiser gondola.

Looks to be a few above Selva in Val Gardena.

Yeah, top of Boe.

A couple of nice ones in Arabba.

Probably the most overlooked one is No 3, Fodoma. Very straight and steep, with a surprisingly additional steep section right at the bottom. Did it on the BB. (the bottom section twice to avoid the bumpy red alternative Cool )

Well worth sticking in a loop on the SR in either direction. wink

Plenty of choice in Val Gardena/Selva/St Christina.

Also Ciampac, back down to Alba from Val di Fassa. (+ Vulcano)
Also in Seceda, No7 Black. Short, but a series of very steep rollers.

@Brian in SLC, Never noticed the Free Fall Cisles. Thanks for the tip. Will add to the list for next time.

Here’s a clockwise route:

Head up Col Alt, Braia Fraida then Pre dai Corf. Ski the black Gran Risa down to La Villa. Head back up, red to La Fraina, (red 12 here is a nice diversion), blue to Bioch then Pralongia 2. 1 more lift (La Vizza), red to Campolungo, up the lift and head across Arabba on the Fly. Or do a round on Burz first. Head for Soursasass from Porto Vescovo then don’t miss Fodoma from Carpazza gondola then head to Val Di Fassa.

The black back down to Alba is supposed to be good but you need a gondola down then up to reach the start. But there’s another black down to Toé on the way back. Stay above Canazei and head for Selva. Once in Val Gardena, 1/2 way down the blue, spot a small sign saying Sella Ronda (alternative route) and head up Piz Seteur 1, 2, Comici 1, 2. Take Paprika then go back up Piz Sella and head to Tramans for a couple more blacks. Back up and back on the alternative SR to Piza Pranseises. Divert down Sasslong for a round. Once back up Ciampinoi, Sasslong B will take you to Selva. Black then red. Cross the village using a bridge and Costabella then head up Dantercepies. Take Cir or La Ria (or both) back into Val Gardena before heading down in Alta Badia. A long run, getting ever shallower in angle and you will finish at Borest.

If time, there’s an easy diversion up Colfosco gondola and Pradat to an easy short black. When back in Corvara, take Boe then Vallon and see if you can manage 1010m vertical of black then red in one final run without stopping. Should be a little harder after this day.

Newish black from top of Piz Sella is advertising itself as the 3rd steepest in Dolomites (74%.....).
I find the La Risa a 'hard' black - it is unrelenting in its steepness. Alba black is my favourite..

@Degski, head via La Villa and Gran Risa to Kronplatz, catching the bus to Piculin. A couple of the blacks from the top to the valley bottom are just glorious. Long and keep dropping. Reds are pretty similar, though don't remember seeing much off the sides of the pistes
