Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@mikeycharlton, you've provided some very valuable help and advice here, thank you. Can't help think it would be worthy of it's own thread unless you have previously done that? Up to you of course.

Thanks once again.

There was a similar thread a while back which started out very much like this one, but then turned into me telling people about the dangers of tagless suitcases and advising people what they can do to minimise the chance of a total loss of luggage. Very much like this one has turned into.
Either one is fine.

Just 'tagging' onto this thread. Sorry to the OP for your experience and glad it has been resolved.

I wanted to share a positive experience regarding Easyjet and damage to baggage.

Last week (Wednesday) flew back from GVA to LGW on the 2035 flight. On picking up my snowboard bag, it was damaged. Looked like it had been dragged along on it's 'nose' across the tarmac. It had worn through all the padding and finally also rather annoyingly damaged the nose of one of the snowboards inside the bag.

I was in a rush to get to the train back home, but took a quick photo of damage in the airport. Thursday morning, i raised a baggage damage claim request via the Easyjet website. After a little bit of to and fro confirming bag type/damage/lack of receipt for a bag i bought 10 years ago etc. they have agreed to replace the bag. This morning i have received a text from the courier that it will be delivered tomorrow. Good service so far.

Regarding the board damage, that has been passed to a different team. I need to take the board into a reputable service centre and damage assessed and then provide that back to the EJ department. Comms has been prompt and equitable so far, and they have confirmed I have up to a year to proceed with the claim.

Will wait and see how this pans out, but so far I feel that i have been dealt with fairly and, in all honesty, I am rather surprised how promptly!

@Richie_S, I will let the damaged luggage team know that they are doing a good job Laughing

One thing for everyone to consider when dealing with a damaged suitcase - if you can't create the damaged report/PIR at the airport (for whatever reason), you will only have up to 7 days from travel to DIY online, otherwise it will be automatically rejected. Make sure you still have the tag too, as you will be asked to upload it.

@mikeycharlton, thanks. Yes, that was my experience - the bag tag was a key thing!

I would not have thought of that before having to process the claim - usual MO is to rip off and discard at earliest opportunity.

@mikeycharlton, this thread is very helpful. We flew back from Geneva to Gatwick last night and my wife’s luggage didn’t arrive. The automated baggage check in machines at Geneva don’t provide baggage receipts but the screens on the machines say that they will add the receipt to the online booking. However when we log into the EasyJet website these details don’t appear anywhere. Without these details you can’t log a bag delay with EasyJet! Super frustrating. Is there a way to contact Gatwick baggage directly as far as you know as it’s proving impossible to speak to anyone at easyJet to get this luggage info

@Jakebarton,

When my bag was delayed last month I was able to set up the PIR using just my name and the booking reference. The tag number then appeared in the details when I logged back in later.

However, I did this at the baggage desk at arrivals. I'm not sure if it works the same if you try to set up the report from home.

@CathS, thanks. I don’t think there was a desk at Gatwick arrivals (unless we missed it). Anyhow the good news is I went back to the easyjet portal and this time skipped the field for the baggage receipt and it actually let me continue the process. I now have a tracking number so hopefully the bag shows soon !

hi @Jakebarton, I can see your PIR, and list of (one) content you have added. You can PM me a few more if you want, and I can add them on there.

There are no new updates on your file, and I'm not in work today (have logged in from home), but can send GVA a message tomorrow.

GVA are notorious for belt failures though, but hopefully it's just that and still in GVA. I will keep an eye on your file.

Also, there absolutely is a desk at LGW to report missing luggage. They are called Global baggage Solutions and are opposite belt number 2 at north terminal. They may however ask you to create your own missing report on the 'First Flight' self service kiosk machines. Failing that you can create your own report online (within 5 days, but they often chop and change that figure) - which I see you managed to do.

Flying back from GVA on Feb. 1st the oversized belt next to the BA desks was badgered and they sent us down to the ones by EazyJet...which were both taking about 5 attempts to get each bag to move so they started just dumping bags on trolleys. And no, my ski case didn't make the plane and didn't appear until the Thursday after the flight.

Even if bag arrives apparently unmolested, I now keep 1 part of tag. I once found bag handlers had incorrectly taken something from my bag, and the tag number was needed for that. The number is available elsewhere though.

With AC these days the bag tag number is saved in the app, which is likely sufficient. You can also track the bag through each scan point in near real time

I take the tag off and stick it inside the bag. I may need it, but I don't want my home airport to be on display.

I take a photo of the tag any time I use self-service machines, just in case I need it and so I don't have to rely on app access or information (which as you've found, might not even be visible).

Hope yours turns up ok.

Another snowhead bag repatriation is imminent.

@Jakebarton,'s bag was tagless in GVA. Managed to work it out despite GVA claiming it was a different colour. Thankfully contents etc match. Should be delivered to their UK address tomorrow.

It was assigned to Swiss Air, so would have been given to them for secondary tracing after 5 days rather than being sent to me.

This is the other thing to consider. If a bag becomes tagless, it can be very difficult or sometimes impossible for the airport staff to know which airline the owner was flying with. So often it can end up with a different airline for tracing. You can still get it back, but I imagine they would have sent it to Swiss Air secondary tracing in Zurich, so it just increases the chances of it going missing again.

In fact around 40% of the bags I receive/trace belong to airlines that I'm not even supposed to trace for. But that only becomes clear once you have worked it out. The WorldTracer system gives me access to every single missing bag of every airline worldwide.

Very good detective work there @mikeycharlton, and great value to the owner.

I've been an advocate on here for placing contact details inside bags too, from running ski group Holidays with friends, its a good idea to facilitate.

Ordinarily we've used just name and Mb number which I've printed and laminated in simple long strips. They need to be laminated as strips with gap between so when guillotined they are still fully encapsulated with decent durability. These punched with hole punch and hair band elastic tied through, can be secured to boots, skis etc inside bag to offer clear contact.

Not just flight, but if anyone has participated in multi drop transfer bus, then can easily be mistaken there too ... this with no immediate and readable traceability to help out.

Early years of "communing" of TO coaches in Moutiers bus garage, galic mustache general meeting exchange, Gaulloise ceremonially burnt, diesel fumes in cold mountain air Very Happy and much exchange of luggage before rolling out to various Tarantaise location Laughing made me realise there's quite a potential to mix and match very similar looking baggage.

Interesting, with two of family out in Tarantaise this week, their travel insurers included a printable sheet with advice to place inside each luggage piece, which include QR code to let anyone trace the item and inform insurer of location etc.

So true!

When not traveling with my skiing equipment, my luggage is just one roller case at maximum size for carry-on. Being a carry-on, it doesn’t “need” a tag or any identifiable marking. But once or twice, I had to put it in the hold of a bus as it’s too large for the luggage space of typical transfer bus.

I ended up having to get off the bus in intermediate stops just to make sure no one took my very ordinary looking black roller case by mistake. This year in Hokkaido, that translate into having to get off the bus 4 times, in a cold dark snowy night, before the bus finally reached my hotel!

I've been wanting to replace my black holdalls for years, but they just keep going. Rossignol ones, but we almost took another snowHeads luggage home with us after one bash as they had the same ones.

Maybe there should be a dedicated (sticky?) thread for lost bags, as this isn't really Easy Jet specific?

I always buy the most outrageous coloured bags I can get, and then use stickers or whatever to make sure no one could possibly think my bag is theirs. I saw some people at a carousel the other week take someone else's bag; their real bag was just behind it, and the two bags looked completely different to me, and yet there was very nearly a mix up. Many people clearly struggle to identify their own bags, and don't bother to read the name on the tag. I want to make it easy for them, even if they can't read.

The bus thing is tricky too, in general having the "mistaken identity" risk plus simple theft is a risk in some locations. You could maybe set a smart tag alarm on the bag (so it alerts the sleeping passenger if the bus stops in the middle of the night and your bag goes walkies....) but it'd probably be too late by the time that went off. I used to wake up and watch every Greyhound stop (there were not that many typically).

My black suitcase is well covered in stickers on every face and I've tied a snowheads EoSB buff around the handle too. Did the same for my ski bag as well, which makes it really easy to identify.

Some great tips on this thread, I'd never thought about taking a photo of my luggage to help with identifying it, and it's good to have a reminder to throw in something with your phone number on.
