Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Carrier on Le Shuttle

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello,

We're taking a 3 series BMW saloon through Le Shuttle with 4 people and a ski carrier on the roof, not predeclared at booking time.

It's well under 1.85m, but just wondering if we might get pulled out & taxed and if so, by a bit, or a lot?

We could stuff them all in the car until we've gotten off Le Shuttle, but that's a hassle...

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this recently- the last similar post was about a year ago- these days their FAQ just refer to anything on the roof.

Thanks Eh oh!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We have a Skoda superb and put the skis on the roof. Started ticking the have stuff on the roof button many years ago, then realised it didn’t really need to be if we were under 1.85m. Gone through under 1.85m at least 4 or 5 times no issues. We are probably smaller than some SUVs.

I figured out is that at busier times it makes getting on an earlier train easier as there is often more capacity. I also think it might be slightly cheaper.
