How about a thread for saying thank you to strangers thats helped out - skiing related of course. There s so many grim or annoying things in the world, how about giving a shout out to the anonymous helpful people????!!!!!
To kick off i'd like to say thank you to some helpful people involved in an incident with a transfer bus late last night / very early this morning. But a bit of scene setting first. Alpine Fleet bus from Geneva to Val d'isere - hmm ever been in a double decker bus slithering along a road - surprised an experienced transfer company vehicle cant handle a bit if snow on the road, tyres not up to scratch or just entirely the wrong vehicle to use? 1.5 miles short of Val there was a car with a broken axle in the middle if the road, so about 0100 hours bus driver, having already been struggling in the 5cm snow depth decides to try squeeze between car and rock wall, with cms to spare, well the rock wins and it slithers into a rut and crashes slow motion into the rock wall. Guess we should have been grateful he didnt try the other side with a small wall then a drop into the lake! At least no one hurt which is most important. We were all turfed out into the snow with some not with outdoor gear, and driver tries forward a back and wedges bus even more into the wall. Meanwhile huge traffic back up.
I almost always do diy ski holidays but this one time i went with Weski to take the hassle out of booking all things separately with added bonus of help if something goes wrong. Hmm, well the help offered was to do what the transfer company says. Which was basically go stand in the snow and wait for a miracle. No replacement bus, and not even organising to get the 30 or so passengers the final 1.5 miles to Val by taxi or whatever. A few passengers tried calling a cab but they said they wouldnt come out at that time. Another passenger also with Weski called emergency number and didnt get a response.
By about 01.45 in the morning after an hour since the crash, us passengers rebelled. By then some lads had managed to bounced the broken car sideways to allow traffic past, so huge thanks to them. Also a lovely couple from the bus i had got chatting so said if they could grab a cab i could jump in with them. They jumped in with a guy who waved down a mini bus / taxi and and let me jump in with them. Taxi driver took E50 to take 4 people <2 miles in the direction he was going anyway empty. Ok yeah charge something but thats a bit taking the /(£@. So huge thanks to that lovely couple and the guy who grabbed the taxi! I dont know how long the rest of the passengers waiting for someone to sort it out, but it looked like fending for yourself was the only solution, i hope not too much longer.
I will leave it to reader to conclude what they think about the companies that are paid to get passengers from A to B, companies that sell their services based in in resort support, and taxi drivers that take advantage of people to difficult circumstances.
So thanks to the lads that moved the car, and in the transfer bus the couple that helped a person in their own, and the guy that flagged the minibus!!!! Enjoy the rest of your week!

Great idea. So here’s a shout out to the father of my hotelier in Tux-Lanersbach who drove me from there to INN last week so I could get another rental car (long story). Yeah I gave him a wad of cash but still he didn’t have to do it and it helped me big time.
The kindness of strangers….good to be reminded of it.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It just shows there are some wonderfull people out there.
My "thank you" goes to a couple sitting across the table from us on a packed late train Kings Cross.
We'd just spent from about 4:30am taking trains from Zell am See home.
Its always exciting taking trains as it often does not work perfectly, but not bad this time.
All went well till we got off the train and I realised I'd left my bag on the rack ...
containing :
Wallet, phone, passport etc.
I tried to ring Cambridge Station ... waste of time ...
Then Suddenly a knock on the door at 11:30pm.
This super couple from Girton had driven all the way back to my place to deliver the bag as they found my address on the driving licence.
There are some super people on this planet. Thank you!
