Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Munich Flights early 10th April - late 14th April: Strategy

Ok, so I'm aware there's an end of season thread knocking about in the forum at the moment, but I figured that this might be a little too different so have started a new thread.

So I've got cheapish flights from Manchester to Munich across these dates, just myself (My wife is in Chicago with family then) and figure I can get 4 days of spring skiing in.

I was thinking of the Zillertal, but Snowbombing is in town that week, so I'm not sure whether that is a good choice now Puzzled

I can grab a small apartment near the Nassereinbahn reasonably, but I was wondering whether I'd be better off paying more and being in the Ötztal. It's just that the transfer from Munich is off-putting and I'd be limited to a pension at a reasonable price.

I quite like skiing slush to be honest, so I'm mostly concerned about lift operation over that period in the arlberg (so I can take advantage of Zurs etc).

Any other options I'm likely missing?

@itsLiamFleming, Zillertal has more to it than Mayrhofen wink wink

You could stay in Zell am Ziller and ski there, or Kaltenbach. Similarly, you could stay up in Hintertux and spend most of your time on the glacier up there.

Snowbombing will have very little effect on anywhere expect the Mayrhofen area, as that's where all the events are.

@itsLiamFleming, Despite being further getting to St Anton is easier & quicker than Ötztal. The train does stop at the station but then you have to get a bus down the valley, in St Anton the station is in the village. If you have a car its about the same. Some of the lifts might close early (maybe Warth) but pretty sure not before 14th. All the buses are scheduled to run until 22nd. That said Zillertal is a good choice too shorter journey and the glacier at the end of the valley.

Ok, that more or less corresponds with what I thought. The appeal of the glacier at hintertux is good, but I'm not seeing as many good value options for the one person as in the Arlberg. (Which is odd)

What about Serfaus? I have to get a bus from Landeck obviously, but that seems like it might be reasonable. (I'm avoiding Ischgl for the moment, I'm over that way in March)

@itsLiamFleming, I'm looking at the Zillertal website for your dates, filtering on availability in Hippach, Kaltenbach, Ramsau and Zell am Ziller, and seeing a few decent deals:

Rauch Anna, Ramsau, €200 including breakfast. Shared bathroom, but a sink in the room.
Reiserhof, Zell am Ziller, €260 including breakfast. Possibly shared bathroom again, but with a private toilet.
Gästehaus Monitzer, Kaltenbach, €284.40 including breakfast. Private shower.

@itsLiamFleming, take a look at my trip report at https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=4969462&highlight=mayrhofen#4969462 which covers an April trip in 2022 when Snowbombing was on. Given you are aware of what the conditions can be like, I'd say go for it.

@itsLiamFleming, I would say look at flights into Zürich, it is a better airport than Geneva (though know lots of UK flights). Easy access by train to many Swiss areas, Andermatt & Engelberg for off piste places like Arosa/Lenzerheid or Klosters/Davos for most pistes orientated spots. Of course there is St Anton which is easy to access by train. On a previous thread spotted that a train from the airport leaves just after 18:00 and gets into St Anton at 21:00. Dinner on the train and in the bar for 21:30! As ever finding sensible priced accommodation is the issue. It works for the Zillertal too, Jenbach is about an hour further from St Anton.
