Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Worst parts of the holiday?

I used to dislike the trip home after a ski holiday, not least as for a few years it was through Geneva airport on a peak Saturday (and also because it was the end of the trip).

For many years now we have travelled out on the Friday (when the kids were smaller we flew on the Wednesday) and back on the Sunday, and the end of the trip has become a pleasure. Often a nice dinner and hotel close to the airport and a relaxed morning the next day. We also always have priority security passes, not often really necessary but remove a potential stress point. If you are organised the multi-story parking at Edinburgh is not expensive when booked in advance and includes fast track on the way out. We used to also pay for Speedy Boarding on Easyjet to get the priority check-in (no longer included with your seat cost sadly). Both worth every penny in my view to remove potential stress points. We now quite look forward to the travel it is all part of the adventure. To the extent that there is some excitement about what to choose at Pret to have on the plane!

The only thing I truly dislike now are loud and rude people. Especially when they are aggressive towards staff, or demeaning. And even more so when they are from the UK. And worse when the reason for their discontent is because things are different (prime example when food not on the menu is demanded but not available). I have to admit to having intervened a few times when fellow Brits are behaving like complete idiots.

My kids told me the answer to that during travel, noise cancelling headphones, but I haven’t invested yet. We’ve had flights where one dominant ‘character’ loved their sound of his or her own voice.

Well done for intervening on the rudeness. You see it here at home in shops, often older blokes, please and thank you not in their vocabulary.

We very often add on a day at the beginning and end of ski trips, making the whole thing more relaxing with a civilsed ending and no getting up in the early hours.

I also have to admit to being jealous of our southern based brethren for one, and only one, reason. I have always liked the idea of skipping the whole airport thing and making an adventure out of the the car journey to the alps. It just makes no sense from where we live (rural Scotland). It does sound like fun though probably less so on the way back than the way there.

I love the adventure of the car and the train. Particularly the train. We're heading out on Friday and I'm really looking forward to the journey. Travelling out on Friday and returning on Sunday hopefully means that we escape the worst of the half term travel chaos (though I'm still prepared for it to be busy). Definitely the least stressful way to travel imo.

I’m on a train (not on holiday though, just a trice a week commute), browsing and posting on snowheads.

Would be much harder to do while driving.

Absolutely. Not to mention the odd nap. I can't read in the car as it makes me feel sick, so I love getting in some uninterrupted reading time.

Plus space to move, the ability to go to the toilet without losing an inevitable 20 minutes to the services. We book First when we travel by train, so whilst it's busy, there's less of a feeling of sardines in a can in the carriage as there's less seats. All in, a very pleasant way to travel. We've also booked a taxi from the station to resort, so we arrive at 8pm and plan to be in the bar by 9pm.
