Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Seeking Ski gear donations for local club

 Poster: A snowHead

I'm on the skav again... This time for any old(ish) gear for the ski club I'm a member of.
Last year I posted a request for snowboarding gear donations for Allenheads ski club and had some very generous responses. I'm pleased to say I saw a lot of the stuff being used during the recent cold snap.
The conditions were fantastic with around 8-10" of powdery snow on frozen ground that lasted for about a week and a lot of individuals/families got to enjoy their first skiing & boarding experiences.
It was really busy at the weekend and they struggled to provide enough gear.
They have quite a decent sized collection of skis but they're at least 30 years old with maybe a handful a carvers at most.
The whole place is run on a voluntary basis and the ski gear is rented out at a nominal rate of £5 to be put in an honesty jar or paid online later.
It's primarily skis, boots and poles they need and still of course snowboarding stuff too, if anyone has it. Kids stuff would be especially appreciated.
They would pay postage and could also pay sensible second hand prices.
I'm happy to collect locally - Newcastle and Whitley bay area - just pm me.

If anyone driving by Lincoln could collect and drop off to you my Kneissl Black Star XC 168 skis I'd be happy to give them to you. They have rental bindings, which could be useful.

@achilles,
Wow thanks, they look great. That's really generous. I'll see if there's anyone from the club can do anything.
If not would you be prepared to send them? The club would be happy to cover your time as well as the postage.

@achilles,
I've been in touch with Mike at the club and I'm afraid nobody's going to be in your area to do a pick up.
If you're happy to send them, I think the simplest thing is if you package them up and give me or the club your details, length, weight, height (of the package - not you!) and when to collect and they will organise the freight.
Also bill for your time and materials.
Would that be ok with you?
Thanks again for your generosity.

@Hotdogger, If I have the necessary packaging already, I'll pack them for you free - as long as you are happy with bubble wrap and a ski bag. They are not new, but they were still going well when I last skied them. As, sadly, my skiing days are over, I am glad they are going to be of further to a good cause. I'll PM my contact details.

Cheers

After a few hiccups, the skis were handed, packed and labelled, to my local friendly (yes really) UPS depot yesterday.

They were a demonstration pair at a Tignes pre-season snowheads bash years ago. I liked them so much that I persuaded Tim McCann to let me buy and keep them for the rest of my stay - with my Scott Missions being used as part exchange. In turn that meant that they are a rental standard pair, with guarded tips and fully adjustable bindings so I hope they will be handy for the Club.

I have had my own pair of skis for about 40 years, so it was a bit of a wrench knowing it was the end of an era for me. However, looking again at the video, I have a warm glow about where they are going.

Off the top of my head we've got a set of K2 Juvys, a set of Rossignol passions and a set of 1080's in the loft. The 1080's are missing a brake though so unless someone has a spare they might not be much good.

Theres probably poles to match the juvys and rossi skis.

If you give me the address and the total weighs under 30kg and is less than 1800mm long I'll send them FOC.

@Hotdogger, got a message from M that the Kneissls have arrived - impressive effort by UPS.

With @homers double's offer as well, looks like the OP was worth the effort Very Happy

That's fantastic. Thanks so much. I'll PM you soon.
I'm sure one of us can come up with a brake for that 1080!

We've had a really great response through the two posts I put up. Other Snowheads have been in touch independently too.
On behalf of the club I'm really grateful. I'm going to be crossing everything for another dump next year like we had this winter.

@achilles, Thanks again... I know it became a bit of a faff but you prevailed in the end!
I'm sorry to think I won't get to ski with you at some future bash or event but rest assured those skis will be giving an opportunity for someone to learn how to ski who might otherwise never realise what they've been missing all their lives! wink snowHead

@Hotdogger, hello. Glad you posted this again as I’ve been meaning to reply I might have some kids gear to donate after our next trip (this April) - boots, maybe skis, I think it will be grown out of by next season. Will you take stuff after April?

PS Its in London.

I might have some things, including quite decent boots. Also have cross country skis, poles and boots if that's of any interest?
