So Last year I ruptured the acl on my left knee! I was a tad worried as to it would hold up, I had physio, at 56 they felt a repair wasn't worthwhile!'so I skied very well, ice, mogul! Yup physio did a great job@ yesterday, to the side of the strife, it was icy with new snow causing mogul, I did my thing, somehow ( i did look up the mountain) I lost balance, so I had a simple faĺl, my right ski didn't come off, I fell, tumbled, landed with my back bottom on the back of the ski! Really hard to release the binding, yup acl is gone on that knee too! Four ski days left! I'm so irritated right now! My teen daughters aren't helping, saying Mom maybe it's time to quit! ( is it bad that I'm wishing a bad fall on them ? So they understand @)

@under a new name, thanks! It's like hell, I can see the slopes, I'm stuck in an appointment can't weight bear, the family return home , all stories, and I'm bitchin! I haven't been contrary to them it's not their fault I'm grounded, but it's soooo boring! I've days of this to do! Gripes non skiers wouldn't get this scenario! Worst bit is just before up my good leg, I sent a video to my physio, showing him how well I was doing! Now I have to go back crawling, oh the horror! The pain is really bad, but the horror of going back to my physio is waay worse! That fecker will laugh too long and too hard for my liking!

At 56 no reconstruction, is that an NHS cost saving thing?
Hoping you make a full recovery.

@biddpyat, oh no, I do feel for you. I ruptured me left ACL when I was 29 and had it repaired. The rehab after repair was really hard work.
I annoyingly damaged the recon (still partially intact) playing hockey but didn't realise it was damaged. When going back to hockey it collapsed while straight line sprinting due to being unstable and caused a lot of cartilage damage leaving me non-weight bearing and unable to bend or straighten it until cartilage could be removed from the joint.
I have now given up hockey I work out a lot in the gym and have got myself to leg pressing 1.5 times my body weight on each leg individually (so I don't favour one while working out).
I use a knee supports on both knees (also had cartilage damage to other knee). I also invested in knee bindings in hope of preserving what's left.
Best of luck!

My better half has been skiing with a broken ACL for nearly 20 years. Didn't have it repaired at the time due to age. What has helped :
1) Exercise, particularly cycling up hills. My god she is TDF level on the climbs, leaves me standing. Half an hour on the exercise bike at home every day if she can't get out. Really strong quads compensate for no ACL.
2) She skis with a knee brace on. I know this is bad practice, but it really seems to help, maybe it's a lot psychological.
3) Be realistic with what you can do. Forget moguls. Just enjoy a nice days ski to a good restaurant.
4) have your bindings looser than you might normally
5) Ice on knee after a day's skiing.

Empathetic view of your situation @biddpyat, as skied (tutored) by an Italian instructor that from racing had damaged acl, but wore a knee brace to now mitigate the after effects. Specifically (from memory) a fitted device to support lateral compromise that the acl would be expected to do, not the normal knee flex direction.
A recent thread of discussion about Din https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=5393131#5393131 could be informative too.

@biddpyat, eek. That's a b*mmer. Hope the rehab isn't too bad. I still have nightmares about my sessions at "Helga's House of Horrors" after I'd jiggered my shoulder.

You can probably leverage ongoing instability in the unfixed knee as the reason you fell and did the other ACL in your discussions with consultant and make it clear you aren't going to give up athletic activities so by denying you recons all they are doing is ultimately accelerating likelihood of TKRs.
I went years without an ACL but wish I had my recon done much earlier because I may not have done as much damage to the joint surfaces that will almost certainly see me needing a TKR at some point.
