Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Now sorted - Need SkiMojo spares on PreBBWUW12

My left SkiMojo just gave way. Out in Alleghe already and wondering how I can get a spare unit (or maybe just a cable)?

Any retailers nearby or any friendly snowheads could bring me a spare. Either Silver or Gold would work.

Help, my knee’s killing me!

If your right knee is fully fit switch the mojo units over. If both knees need ‘help’ this won’t help you.

Thank you @RUGBY PETER, it’s only one dodgy knee but having tried skiing I’m really hating only having the one robot leg.

But looks like I have a solution in progress with Colonel Faff and a handy local (for him) retailer Eh oh!

Cheers all.

All sorted now thanks to Colonel Faff and Snowfit.co.uk in Norwich (hardly land of the mountains, but they fantastic service from Chris).

No, that's not going to work. It will completely screw up your skiing - I've occasionally had one or the other not engage properly and the second you come to anything that's going to put any stress on the joint/mojo it's immediately noticeable how unbalanced it makes you.

Better to just ski gently without the mojo, which is what I've had to do in the past when it's broken, which happened a couple of times. Thankfully I bought it from a friendly shop in the village who have been able to replace the broken bits from the supplier and have lent me their 'demo' model on one occasion while waiting for the replacement part (which only took a couple of days).

@Chaletbeauroc, slightly off topic but seriously considering investing in these based on my last trip and the pain in my knees - I'm also sick of overdosing on nurofen so are they a magic bullet?

I’ve been impressed.

If you are in right resort you can often rent a set for the day prior to buying. I did this in Saalbach.

Takes a little while to get used to the faff of putting them on/off etc but worth the effort I think.

@Belch, Yes. Yes, they are. Lots of previous threads about them if you search.

If you play your cards right you ought to be able to get a free demo day, or at the very least a discount equivalent to the day's rental if you end up buying them there. Of course, if you're UK based you may prefer to get them direct from the manufacturer, probably cheaper as well, but for first-time users getting a proper trained dealer to set them up for you and correctly/securely mount the studs on the boots is pretty much an essential, so I would suggest you use a shop to do so, either in resort or in the UK.

Is it? and how much difference is there between an incorrectly self set up one and one set up by a dealer? I know several Mojo users and I am pretty sure they are all self set up and I don't know anyone who has had particular problems. Does it really make much difference? I'm asking because I don't know by the way not because I necessarily think you are wrong or mistaken.

@T Bar, There are several aspects to it, including drilling a hole in the boot shells to mount the studs, setting the spring tension, adjusting lengths of the upper and lower sections and finding the best way the straps work for an individual. Also some people like me do without the velcro thigh strap, others with different shape legs need it to hold the whole thing in place.

Yes, you can do all of this yourself, but even if you're confident and competent to do so from the instructions supplied, as a first-time user you may go through several iterations before you get it just right, perhaps impacting on your first few days of skiing with it while you do so. Getting a shop to do the initial set up may not be spot-on perfect first time, but it should be better from the off and you'll be able to see what they did and take it from there.

@T Bar, I am on my second Mojo. The latest version is straightforward to set up. It comes with pretty good instructions and Martin H also has some good tutorials online (YouTube I think). Just my opinion, others may beg to differ.

@kerb, Was in Zell last week and got over to Saalbach / Leogang for a day but negated the trip to SPORT HAGLEITNER (had rang them the week prior for their 50euro fitting/trial & buy offer) as time had ran out / apres became a priority!

@Chaletbeauroc, Def going to do this - spoke with Solutions 4 Feet & a Physio re-seller in Birmingham. Not sure where to purchase (price is the same and includes fitting) but do understand there is sometimes tweakage based on individual biomechanics and/or whether you use the temp friction fit boot clip first (to ascertain the best alignment location) or go straight to either sharing the power strap 'hole' / drilling straight away for the permanent boot clip locator . . .?

@holidayloverxx, Does it share the same pilot hole as your power strap (at the rear) or is it in a different location? Also have you bothered to insert rod blockers to ensure settings stability or do you not bother?

Mine went straight in the “outer” power strap hole, perfect position for me at top of boot and around 35mm to outside of centerline.

I put the rod blockers in. I did have some slippage before that. Could probably have tightened the clamps (main aren’t tight) but blockers also stop me having to remember the length setting on first day!

@kerb, Thanks for the advice - If I do invest I want minimal faff!

Just on a point of faff - what is the process for putting them on / removal logistics etc if wearing under legwear eg. if you are stashing skis near lifts (non ski in out) and walking/travelling on a bus etc (with legwear over and walking shoes on) assume you put mojo on as normal (in your accommodation) and then clip in after putting your boots on? Similarly at the end of the day can you happily sit in them in the bar / on a stool with walking shoes on and not become annoyed with them slipping off etc? I do carry a pack and have got some shell pants with full length side zips (so I'm assuming I could ostensibly remove mojo 'in public' without taking my leg wear totally off) but would rather wear my normal pants which have vent access but only limited to the thigh area!

Different location. I don't know what a rod blocker is..mine are 11 years old

@Belch, wear over thermals, 7mder ski pants. I leave mine on in the xar/bar etc otherwise have to carry them. They do have a tendency to slip down though...Re tighten the velcro

@holidayloverxx, Thats what I thought! I tend to roll my pants up (the inner elasticated gaiter) after ski boot removal so pant fabric doesn't drag around my heels (hate elongated walks in ski boots after a day in them in general) - does mojo rattle about when walking (in normal shoes) and is it worth getting the shoulder straps for this reason alone (ie to negate drunken slippage lol) ?

Mine don’t slide down much when not connected to boots. But I think this will depend on your leg shape.

With fairly well defined calf muscles the lower Velcro does a pretty good job of keeping them up.

Shoulder straps I found just another piece of faff and discovered I could get same result by clipping the waist harness into my front belt loop. But don’t even bother with this now unless have very extended walk.

@Belch, no they don't rattle about, just make sure the leg velcro is snugly fastened. Shoulder straps would just be another faff going to the loo (girl)

I have just bought new ski boots from Matt at thebootbus.com and can highly recommend him. As well as selling boots, skis, ski wear and ski acessories, he is an official Ski Mojo retailer and, as part of the service of fitting me with the most suitable boots, he also tranferred the Mojo clips onto my new boots and tweaked my Mojo settings for me as it wasn't switiching on very well.

He is located near Dover - the only ski shop in East Kent - and will also come and fit skis and Mojos at your home. He will pick up skis, service them and return them too. (Not sure of the maximum distance for this service though).

Buying a Ski Mojo was the best things I have ever done - I doubt I would still be skiing now without it.

@Belch, My mojos slip down very quickly if not attached to the boot. In fact I cannot get outside the apartment door without them sliding down. They get very uncomfortable in this position and the only way to get them back is to take my trousers down in the boot room and pull them up. I wear leggings to prevent the velcro straps rubbing the skin (and showing my pants in the boot room Smile ). I have now bought braces for them so hope for a more comfortable experience.

Two years ago I misplaced my harness and went into the nearest ski shop to our apartment in Les Arcs. It took them 3 days for a replacement to be delivered but in the meantime they loaned me one from a demo model they had in stock.
