Which would you choose, Les Arcs or Val Thorens?
Thanks!

Probably val Thorens for Easter, either for the 12th

either will be fine unless its v warm and slush. VT higher and as its 3V its a bigger area but Les Arcs links to La Plagne which is the a massive area (i just dont get why they bothered building that link ?? both resorts big enough) . April needs to be high.

As above, either will be fine.
Not sure what @johnE means really. Easter weekend varies on date. This year it's 18th to 21st but you already said you are going on the 12th.
Either way, both areas are extensive, have plenty of high altitude skiing. Les Arcs closes 26th April, 3V 21st April, Val T 4th May to give an indication.

Much discussed, hard to prove definitely it's economic worth. I get it doesn't have worth to large swathes of people but for me it's massive. I have stayed in Les Coches 13 times at the latest count since the Vanoise Express was built. Once in Les Arcs and a couple of times in La Plagne before. There is no way I would have been so many times if it wasn't for the link.

@Hannahjs,
A few of us have chosen VT, and will be staying in Les Balcons. We couldn't make the dates for the EoSB, which is the following week but into the start of the summer term.

I have chosen, arc 2000 on the 12th for a week. Having skied les arc, vt and tignes I prefer les arc, just a preference. Let's hope for a good dump the days before arrival.

Thanks guys! Say i chose Les Arcs and there's no snow dump, will the slopes still be covered by snow cannons?

@Hannahjs, if it is cold enough they could do- but would they at end of season?

Based on admittedly not very recent experience, at least of Les Arcs, I‘d expect Les Arcs to be quieter (maybe partially shutting down for the season) but VT to still be in full swing and pretty busy. So depends a bit on your preferences in that respect.

Would prefer quieter, we are not party animals!

TBH I've never found VT to be very lively, and that was even when I first went there, aged 25 and up for drinking late and then getting up early for a buzzer-to-buzzer day! High, yes; snowsure, usually; rowdy - no!

@tomj, I was mainly referring to on the mountain rather than in the town

Sorry but you are massively overthinking this.
All the main links and runs are snow cannoned to buggery early in the season.
And there will be plenty to ski even beyond the closing date.
Val T has a tad more height but only a tad.

@Layne, I was just pointing out that Easter week is the last week of the season for Les Arcs and they tend to less keen to keep all parts of the resort open. For example the Vanoise Express closes on the bank holiday.

agreed 150m isn't much. Arc 2000 is at 2150m Val Thorens 2300
If there is insufficient snow in Arc 2000 at the end of April then snow making will not be possible either - it will be too warm even at night. In most years there is skiable snow at Arc 2000 well into May and sometimes June. In fact I have been prevented from doing some hikes in July due to frsh snow.

it's also not Easter is, I think, JohnE's general point in these threads. Many people tend to say Easter when they mean Easter school holidays. It's a bit like saying Christmas Skiing (15-21st Dec), when a better description may be 'December skiing'.
Although the dates above do include Good Friday so maybe the description is fair in this case.

I wouldn't call it rowdy - but it's definitely lively. Well it was about 10-15yrs ago - Malaysia (biggest club in the alps apparently) was always still packed at 3am. The beauty is that it's all underground so the resort seems quiet from the surface!

It pretty much is - It closes the following Monday. It's certainly the last full week Sat to Sat.

"Easter" is Friday to Monday so always spans two weeks. In this case as you say it's the back end.
Many/most people just talk about the general period and/or the 2 weeks off school (which can mean Easter w/e is at the start, middle or end.

Yep, I'm aware of how people talk about the general period, and don't disagree with any of that (even though Easter is technically just 20th April) Someone said 'Not sure what @johnE means really' so I was just explaining what he was meaning.

There's the rub - in my dreams! I'm rarely still going at 3am!
I do remember spending a couple of nights in there, if that's the place I remember, under that plateau by the front de neige?

Before I retired I was very sensitive to when Easter was; we got Good Friday, Bank holiday Monday and the Tuesday off work. By driving out over night on Maunday Thursday and back on the Saturday night we got 9 days sking for 3 days leave. It was very important me and I imagine many other skiers. Easter Monday is also a national holiday in France and I know my friend and his children will often join us for skiing then (school holidays are often the very end of April / early May).
I suppose I must accept that when people say "Easter" in this forum they mean any time from the end of March to the end of the season.
@Layne, the last full week of Les Arcs is the week from 19th to 26th. I may be there then but accept that I may have to get the navette back from 2000 to 1600 rather than ski back home. That is why I did not reccomend Les Arcs for that week.
