Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Recommendations for solo trip - New Year 2025/26

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

Just got back from a fantastic 8 days of skiing (and lucky enough to be going again in March for another 9 days). However I'm already looking to next season and thinking about how to maximise my time on the slopes. Annual leave constraints mean I can usually only get away for one week per season, with this year a rare exception.

Next year, however, my office will be closing between Christmas and New Year. This means I could get a full week of skiing for just one day of leave, travelling Dec 26th/27th/28th and returning Jan 3rd/4th. I've never skied at new year however and understand that it is busy, expensive, and not necessarily snow-sure. Therefore, turning once again to the wisdom of my fellow snowheads for recommendations. Where might you recommend for a trip over thie period?

Some considerations:
- This will most likely be a solo trip, so happy to consider self-catering, or filling a room in a chalet.
- Strong preference for larger resorts. I like to ski different areas and runs each day (have previously skied Tignes, Les Arcs, Grand Massif, Saalbach, Zell am See, Avoriaz, and Arraba). Would happily return to any of these.
- Lift systems: strong preference for modern, express-style lift systems. Older single-speed chairlifts do my head in!
- Apres/nightlife: not important
- Cost: ideally as cheap as possible as I'd like to be able to buy lunch on the slopes!
- Crowds: probably my biggest consideration. Like everyone I love empty slopes and quiet lift lines!
- Flghts: London-based, so can reach anywhere in Europe with relative ease.

Many thanks in advance for any recommendations!

@kebeliever101,
What style of accommodation?
Most will be Sat 27/12/25 - Sat 3/1/26 or Sun 28/12/25 - Sun 4/1/26.
https://www.chaletchardons.com/# may be able to help with their Chalet Hattiers Long Stay room - they are taking bookings for 2025/26.
https://www.leski.com/chalet-holidays/chalet-finder - Chalet le Bisolet and Chalet Rikiki have single rooms, again they are taking bookings for 2025/26
UK tour operators with chalet hotels may offer single accommodation to fill up rooms of single travellers.

For independent travel. Booking.com or similar might give you the flexibility of a 10 day holiday, so a greedy 8 days skiing.

Don’t go modest altitude especially in France/western Italy. Although it was fine this season, the previous two Xmas/NY’s were record breaking warm with some significant rain.

Also look at:
St Christoph (huge Ski Arlberg access)
Serre Chevalier
Val Thorens or Courchevel
Orelle (cheaper access to 3V)

As mentioned by @Snow&skifan lots of places will only be available saturday to saturday
In addition to Booking.com on specific dates - another option is www.Vrbo.com
www.Heidi.com goes a step further and puts together packages incl. flights, transfers and accom.

I would head to Les Arc 1800. That way you get access to Paradiski but dont have the higher cost of Arc1950. It is cheap if you want it to be. I've just done my calculations for what I spent this year booking for me and my 2 daughters. It worked out £717 a head for a week. I booked as follows:

Train London to Paris (return)
Train to Bourg (return)
Airbnb apartment for 7 nights
Lift Passes (booked when they had 30% off in October)
Ski Hire for the girls (Have my own boots/skis)

For £717 cant really complain as the skiing is great in Les Arcs and its pretty snow sure end of December due to the altitude. Food and drink when there is also no different to what it costs in my town at home.

Thanks for the suggestions all! Much to ponder. Brilliant to know about the shared room in the Hattiers Chalet
