 Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Coming to Kitz in 4 weeks. Kids can all ski to a decent level but we all prefer long wide cruisers - either blues or easier reds - ideally without any long flat bits. Which runs are the best?
Also if we head over to Resterkogel it looks like we will have to take a couple of reds on the way back (75 and 62?). Are these challenging?
Thanks
Ian

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The best snow & skiing is usually to be found at Resterhöhe so you will have to cope with those pistes or get the bus back. Zweitausender is quite steep for a red piste though usually has good snow so not hard to ski.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Both can be challenging later in the day but worth the trip over even just for the Barenbadkogel run alone

...and if you get the wider lift pass some nice runs over in Westendforf as well.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Any advice on what are the best cruisers?

@countryman, If you do that note that on the run back down to KiWest, which is graded red, there is a short steeper pitch near the bottom which is graded black (not sure it really needs to be) but there is a track alternative

@IanA44, I took my kids on their first ski trip to Kitzbuhel. They had lessons in the morning the skied with us in the afternoon. By the end of the week, they were skiing down the Blue 26 to Kirchberg. It does get quite busy and there are a few steeper sections that made them nervous. However, they did really well. It is wide for the most part although there are a couple of narrow sections, one in particular, that care is needed due to it getting very bumpy later in the day. They were happy going up to the Steinbergkogel and doing the Blue 16 which ultimately leads to the Blue 26. Near the end of this 16 section, it does get narrow and fairly flat but poling isn’t generally required. On the whole, this run in particular seems to meet your needs.

@IanA44, The runs off the 3S (after a little steep entry ) are very nice and cruisy. Especially the runs down to Jochberg. Theres now a Gondola to take you back up the mountain, though its prob been there longer than I realise. You can then head over to Barenbadkogel, there, theres a blue and a black (not the steepest/hardest on the mountain.) that you can do a few times and its just a lovely cruisy run. From the bottom of the Jochberg run, theres a bus that takes you back to Kitz if its getting later on in the day, or didnt fancy the ski all the way back over the 3S again.
I always think of here as mainly cruisy runs. There isnt anything really too challenging unless you want it to be, ie skiing harder, tighter turns etc. If thats the case, come down Steinbergkogel, where its long and steep enough to challenge anyone in the way they feel they want to. Its a very wide black Run 17 but can be easily skiied down as if it was a blue
