I am on the cusp of booking flights with EasyJet - I will be booking skis and a hold bag. I would rather delay adding the hold bag to closer to the flight time obviously NOT at airport and still in advance. However as flights are next December, and bags in total are double the costs of the flight tickets.
Will the baggage prices stay the same (ie £42 each way for skis & boots and £29.49 each way for 15kg hold bag)? Or have people seen them go up?

There was another thread where I think people saw just this, the bag prices increasing. But not massive increases. I hardly think they go down. What’s prompting the delay on buying these?

I've never seen it increase. I fly EJ once a week. I always leave it until checkin to get hold bags.

They have only raised the ski carriage cost to £42 this season from £35 which it’s been for a few years. So I’d be surprised to see them go up again next season. There isn’t that much margin left in ski carriage by comparison to renting

With other aspects not firmed up as an early season week, if things go wrong minimise costs out layed should I end up not being able to go was the thinking

Will still take mine, as can't rent skis with knee bindings on

@jirac18, I think she means increases as they do with seat prices when tiered and done dynamically. But yes they could also change the base price at any time.

@NickyJ, The flight tickets are half the price of baggage costs may be a better way of putting it?

Flights are 1/3 of my baggage costs. It's what it cost and the convenience of being able to fly from an airport 30mins from our house (Bournemouth) is hugely advantageous.
It's just the until things get properly confirmed there's a risk

I think I understand the enquiry. Easyjet wont refund baggage cost once booked, so you can lock in your very cheap flight cost now, with little to lose if you change your mind or move dates later, but what about baggage? Baggage charge are at a lower risk of going up than flight prices which will increase the nearer to dpearture you get
chances of sports luggage charge increasing is very low as it is a set base charge for any flight. Chance of hold luggage increasing is a possibility if demand goes up, but arguably if you have some doubt over dates, its probably worth holding off, knowing there is a risk of it going up say £5 a bag than losing £29 on top of the flights if you change your plans.

@t44tomo, that's it!
Thankyou for translating.
The other thing I am deliberating what to book in bags... if I can booked a windsurfing bag with 32kg and get all my gear in my double ski bag (clothes, helmet skis and boots) than that is £50 cheaper overall..... I just want a bit longer to think about that

 You know it makes sense.

@NickyJ, we take an 2 man inflatable kayak to Mallorca every year, I pay for the 32kg sport bag, it goes in a huge roll bag and weighs in just under 31kg , never had an issue in or outbound.
One year I tried to save a couple of quid and paid for a 32kg bag as a standard bag, on the return flight the check on agent didn’t believe it was and charged a sport bag supplement, so if your concerned in any way pay for the sports option and stuff as much as you can in it

I'm flying to Geneva this evening with a "wind surfer" (that's what the app says, although I think it means a windsurf) and it will be my first time taking my snowboard as anything not booked specifically as a snowboard.
I'll let you know how I get on, but I should probably mention that on my trip back from Geneva to Brum last week, my snowboard bag (booked as a snowboard bag) was damaged and came out with a sizeable rip in it.
Claims for this would normally go direct through Easyjet's system, but as this bag is actually my friend's old bag that got damaged on a previous trip, and has previously been claimed for and replaced by them, I won't be claiming again. However, if they were to damage my "wind surfer" on this trip, it might be interesting to see whether they would refuse to replace it with a large snowboard bag or whether they would only replace it with another "wind surfer" bag.
I don't want to even think about what would happen if it went missing entirely, but that is something to always consider too.

Hey @Hils79, my two more detailed posts about this are in the other thread that was sort of running concurrently:
LINK
If you use the self-service machines, they do allow you to choose the more general Large Sports Equipment (rather than the specific windsurf etc) so that's what I went with. Wasn't brave enough to choose snowboard, in case that confused it over the weight allowance.

I was tempted to book the large sports equipment option when booking flights for this years trips. You'd think it's the weight that matters more than what the item(s) are-within reason on fo course. Using two separate airlines and Jet 2 from Generva you had to contact them to book skis for some reason only golf clubs at 22kg or by bicycles at 32kg were bookable on line.
I'll only take one pair of skis and my boots which are 12kg so if I pack sensibly think I'll get away without paying for an additional checked case, fitting everything in my ski bag.

Thanks so much @GuyrillaMonsoon[/b],
I’m not going for long but I may have chance to go split boarding for a day with some mates - so I’ll have two boards and will definitely overpack given that it’s my first trip in a few years - I’ll have forgotten what I don’t need |
You're welcome.
Don't know what bag you've got, but I've got a Dakine Low-roller which when not over-packed is just right at 20kg. But my boots, helmet and goggles are usually in a large carry-on with a few extra bits stuffed inside.
I've also got a bigger older Dakine Hi-roller which I managed to get over 32kg with two boards, two sets of bindings but boots, helmet, goggles etc in large carry-on. In hindsight, I found it a lot of effort to lug around, even pretty much just dragging it on / off trains and buses in Switzerland. If I'd had the misfortune of having the accident / injury I just had on my last trip on the one I took that bag on, I would have REALLY struggled.
Now that I no longer have easyJet Plus (where large carry-on was free), I anticipate booking my snowboard as surfboard on all my future trips, putting what was my large carry-on and its contents inside my Hi-roller for the flight, then immediately removing it upon collection and lugging it on my back. Using the self-check in machines, I might try choosing snowboard the first time, just to see what it says about my weight allowance. But I won't be looking to max out the weight, even with the bags combined, just looking to avoid paying for two different luggage items.
Good Luck... with the packing, the transportation and the trip in general!

I'm curious about the reality of the baggage policy as https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/baggage/hold-luggage suggests that a standard bag can be oversize without issue (sum of dimensions). I do this all the time on BA without issue (I have a smaller sized ski roller) so has anyone tried this on EasyJet?
Certainly at check-in they don't seem to differentiate, I weigh the bag & and then directed to oversized. I did have a slight issue at GVA where the weight didn't match because of their silly self-service scales where you have to hold the ski bag upright!
