 Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Heading to Kitzbuhel for the first time in Feb. One of our group is a non skier so looking for mountain restaurants that a non-skier can reach easily.
Also, another one of the group cannot have milk products. Appreciate this is a bit niche but if anyone has found places that cater for dairy free diets, please let me know! Places that have vegan options are usually good for this.
Thanks!
Ian

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@IanA44, Pedestrians can take the Hahnenkamm lift and then there are various places which are walkable from there. I believe also possible on the Kitzbühler Horn side too but never been up. Another possibility would be to take the bus to Pass Thurn and then get on the gondola at the mid station to the top, should be possible for the skiers to easily get there for lunch.
Oat milk is widely available, recently spotted in a mountain restaurant two adjacent coffee machines one with normal milk one with oat milk. Practically everywhere will have vegetarian options, vegan not quite so common.

If they take the Flek Gondola, there are also easy marked walks from there. Starting right by the Sonnenrast Restaurant. If its nice weather also plenty of sun loungers to sit on. Last week there was also music being played at the end of the day there, with a DJ etc. I havent been back since late in the day, so cant say if its there every day. The facility is, so Im assuming so.

Wouldn't be a super long walk to the Hahnenkammstüberl from the main Hahnenkammbahn lift. Pretty good lunch plate!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@IanA44, Assuming we are talking about the same place, no walk it is next to the lift. The places around the Fleckalmbahn are a shortish walk.

Going to guess the hike is around 10 minutes? The google map shows 700m. The lift that comes up to it is the A8 Walden lift that doesn't come from a base area.
My guess is the hike back could be reduced by the magic carpet (A7 Märchenwald). Not sure if pedestrians can use it though.
You can see the terrain on the webcam...

Look at the Hahnenkamm Bergstation cam. The webcam pans the hike.

If your ski party are after a rest day, the Horn is the perfect place. The restaurant there is pleasant and most of the runs go past it. Those who want to ski can; those who want to sit out for a bit can. And, since most of the runs go past the restaurant, those who have had a rest don’t have to wait ages until someone passes, then can tag back into the group. It’s not extensive up there but IMO great for a quiet day.

The best run up the Horn is Raintal (run 4 I think) A new Gondola a couple of years ago, though because of that the local farmers werent happy and the runs been cut short. ( Not allowing the use of their land) But rather than catching the chair right to the top, meaning a tricky ski down to the start, theres a new piste been made off the top of the right hand lift taking you out of the bowl. As soon as you come down the little slope off the chair, turn right by the fence. That takes you down on Raintal.
