Has anybody taken their skis on WizzAir? For £110 return for adding the ski bag, max weight is 32kg so great but dimensions have a max length of 171. Which is too short for one of our Ski bags of 190cm need that length due to hubby's ski length (he is 6' 1)
In reality is it actually checked?

From their website:
Passengers are permitted to transport one set/piece of sports equipment for an additional fee, with the following restrictions: the equipment cannot exceed the size of 149 x 119 x 171 cm and a weight of 32 kg.
Sports equipment should be added during the booking creation or, later, at least 3 hours before the flight departure in your WIZZ Profile. Due to limited availability for sports equipment per flight, it is recommended to add this baggage during booking creation.
The following items can be transported:
Ski, snowboard, surf equipment, and golf bags packed in a pouch.

Could never understand how their ski carriage was this size, really no point to it if they are strict on it , so nevertheless seriously looked at them as we usually take skis, apart from their terrible reputation.
So I’ll be interested in how this pans out.

Yes it seems nuts, but also thinking about normal airport check in, what happens with say BA which has a 190cm bag length (why we bought that longer one at 190), they have NEVER asked or checked and it just a tag and sent round to oversized bag drop.

Probably the case ( ) 19 times out of twenty but its thats one jobs worth that might catch you then either stuffed or facing a hefty bill for oversized carriage at the airport.

@NickyJ, how did it go?
I booked a Wizzair flight to Venice for next January and the 171 cm limit worries me too, the ones I plan to take are 177.

Didn't end up booking them. Booked flights with easyjet to Geneva in the end.
Please let us know how you get on as that route is off interest.

Reminiscent of the old, and not sadly lamented, Flybe. Ski lengths were highly restricted allegedly due to the small hold size. Thius avoided them

So have flown with them maybe six times through UK, Poland and Georgia with a 200cm coffin bag including skis, boots and clothes and no problems each time. Not in the last couple of years though. Booked as sports equipment with no suitcase.

Flew last Jan with them - 4x flights - had no issue with the ski bag length.

Forgive the resurrection of a semi-oldie; anyone pls know how you actually book in your skis/ski bag? I can't see a link/option for this. Only the usual book via Wizz plus for the 32kg luggage option... My bag is within the max length of 171cm, so that's a relief.

@wiigman, maybe the flight's at capacity for bags so no option showing? As above :
"Due to limited availability for sports equipment per flight, it is recommended to add this baggage during booking creation. "

@wiigman, are you using a mobile device or a pc? Not certain this is the case here but I know certain things I only managed to achieve with Ryanair via the PC browser (booking extra hand luggage without paying for a seat ).

Good thinking have been on MacBook, but will try a PC
I understand 'why' airlines do this to discourage ski bags, Turkish (used to be great) are now just as bad, but boy does it leave a bad taste versus Swiss/Cathay etc.
Most skiers IMHO will pay the extra, they just hate the BS.

Pythagoras comes to your rescue on Wizz, surely.
The dimensions for Wizz bags are 149x119x171. The maximum dimension diagonally across this cube is accordingly 256cm. And whilst that is for a single pole, clearly a coffin bag will fit in.

So I have returned, updating for future generations
No one bothered to measure the length or open the skibag, I took a pair of 177 in a big Dakine bag with the allowance of 32 kilos.
They only cared about the weight, it was 32.5 but no reaction at Venice as well.
