Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I was in le touvet just after Christmas and should have visited the resort but hadn't realised the resort hadn't reopened. I think the last time I was there was the beginning of 2024. I think the excellent via ferrata is also closed.

Home of Coupe Icare, the best exhibition we exhibit at each year. https://www.coupe-icare.org/en/programme2024/ So much more than an exhibition but a festival of free flight and if anyone is in the Grenoble area in mid September it's well worth a visit.

@Red Dave, there are plans but a lack of money. My son went up there a few days ago and said it was still wrecked (he was trail running or something)

I couldn't find out if the Via Ferrata is open, I think it is still closed. I've done the easy route only but not been up there for a while. In the past the team who worked the Funiculaire in the summer worked on the ski lifts in the winter which worked out really nicely. Following the floods the town hall couldn't afford to run the lifts and repair the funi. In theory the funiculaire will reopen in 2027 but in cash strapped France nothing is sure.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

@davidof, I thought the funicular was beautiful and hope it is renovated soon.

I’ve done both the easy and hard Ferrata including finishing the easy one in the dark without a head torch. A few years ago I was doing the hard one while my wife and son did the easy one. My wife was delayed a long time while the rescue services helped a woman who had become cragfast up ahead of her.

As to the hardest ferrata I’ve ever done that must the one in the centre of Grenoble. The rock was so polished it was like climbing on ice.

@johnE, just asked the boy, the VF is closed, it was supposed to reopen in 2023.

The most pressing problem locally is to rebuilt the bridge over the river which was destroyed by altermondialists in 2020 as it still cannot carry anything other that cars and it is an important communications link.

Quite happy if they keep it as it is…. The queues to get out of Crolles onto the Eastbound autoroute of a late afternoon/early evening have typically been way less than they were before the ‘incident’… Was even better when it was completely shut to cars Happy Happy

The issue, seeing the wider picture for a moment, is the lycée for Crolles is on the other side of the river so the bus service has to make a 15km detour which has a negative effect on the student's school day. Ditto for the ski bus.

Now it would be sensible for the lycée to be in Crolles, given the population is 10k and on the other side of the river, Brignoud is 3.5K but things are what they are.

It hasn't affected me personally as my son is at University but I can understand it from a parent's point of view.

Of course the children could walk to school but the roads are not particularly safe and unlit.

@davidof, I know I know Happy
Loads of folks I work with live the other side of the bridge so I am well aware it is a massive chore for lots of people... but from a purely selfish point of view the period of time with the bridge only open to bikes/pedestrians was heaven!!!

And on the original post it has been great to see St Hilaire running again - big community effort there (again quite a few colleagues involved) - lots from the 'sandal wearing hippy community on the plateau' as someone once referred to it (can't think who?? Happy).

Would be such a shame to lose those little lifts that give communities easy/cheap access to skiing. (Sambuy/Seythenex being a case in point).

@davidof thanks for the report; sad to see and it does seem unlikely to open again soon give the financial state we're in.

Nice to see some of these small community runs coming back to life though Cool
