Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Has anyone driven from Nice to Isola 200p?

So from reading around it gets twisty and steep near the end. Chains or socks would be a must just in case of snow?

In terms of a car to drive there would a Renaukt Clio make it?
Or should I consider something like a Renaukt Captur.

Isola 2000 is the fixed destination as I have a daughter in college in Nice.

I've driven there from Nice. Yes, quite an "interesting" road. There was no snow on the road when I drove there but chains or socks could well be needed in snowy conditions. Any car will do - a Clio with winter tyres would be better than anything without.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

And if you can't get winter tyres, and the conditions turn nasty (or nice, if you're heading up there to ski...) any car with chains will be better than any car without!

The pre-booked bus from outside Nice airport (92) is about 15 euro per person and the public bus is probably half that. 2hr journey, tops.

If you can, ditch the car and use the busses.

From Nice i've skied at Isola2000, Auron and Val d'Allos (La Foux). All great for a few days turns. Drove to both Auron and Isola. Went to Foux d'Allos last February by train, changing onto a local bus. Liked them all, but particularly Foux d'Allos. The skiing link to Pra Loup was great fun and makes for a vast ski area.

The drive to Auron or Isola is easy. Auron easier, as slightly lower and the village is nicer.

This is the train to Val d'Allos via Thorame Haute station. https://www.cpzou.fr/en/ We just turned up and went. It wasn't busy. Nice Chemins de Fer de Provence

If you're worried about road conditions and/or doing a day trip, drive to Saint-Etienne-de-Tinee, which is much lower, and access Auron ski area from the valley bottom lift there.

Came back from Isola today (albeit on the bus) and it was pretty interesting on the roads for about 5km to the resort. Lots of hurried cars putting on chains and the conditions were challenging.

If you’re set on driving though, it’s a fairly straightforward, ugly and generally uninspiring drive. A bit like Isola itself.
