Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tips for ski pass in Colorado

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We (2 of us) have booked accommodation for a 3.5 week trip in Colorado and purchased an epic local pass which will cover 4 of the resorts we are visiting. We are also planning to ski 2 days at Copper mtn, 2 at sunlight, 1 at arapahoe basin and 1 at Loveland. My plan was to buy tickets direct with Copper mtn and use a gem pass for sunlight arapahoe and Loveland. Travelling from uk in 2 weeks.
I would appreciate if anyone has any better knowledge of what the best options would be. Thanks..

Having skiied Tahoe last year I know how confusing all the various lift pass options can be - and that its so worth looking at lift passes way way ahead of your trip for the best options.
I cant be much help - but could it be worth looking at upgrading your epic local pass - would that cover the other resorts you wish to visit??
Just a thought??
Have a fabulous trip - and I look forward to a trip report!

Copper Mountain offers $99 lift tickets on Thursdays, check out Play Forever Thursdays on their web site.

You will be so close to Aspen ... probably the one ski area (actually 4 but that's another story) that is not to miss when in Colorado.. Look for ticket/hotel deals but Aspen is tough, owned by Altera/Ikon pass. As is Winter park, Eldora, A Basin.

Gem pass and Epic will cover most of your skiing.

If you can get Altera/Ikon access for under $200/day - deal !

Aspen is owned by the Crown Family, not by Alterra. Aspen is part of the Ikon Pass (Full pass not Base pass). Lodging is very expensive, but Glenwood Springs is not, is only an hour away, and has two excellent hot springs.

That is so unhelpful.

My suggestion is to give the Ikon family resorts a miss this time. Come back another year to do Aspen/Copper/Winter Park/A-Basin next time.

You can kill a couple more days at Loveland or Sunlight etc. if you so wish.

let them decide what is helpful, there are options available to them ... nobody asked you to judge what is "helpful" or not. being an ass.ole is certainly not helpful.

@MogulMonkey, it sounds like you have it pretty well sorted. Aspen is an iconic resort (and a fun town) and I'd want to try and check it out on such a long trip, but you'll pay around $244 just to ski it. If you have the money and inclination it would be worth it, especially since you're already going to be shelling out for Copper (because the Ikon pass isn't available); maybe consider Aspen instead? Otherwise skip it. The Epic resorts you'll be skiing aren't exactly chopped liver. And neither is Copper...but it ain't Aspen. You could do a surgical strike: drive to Aspen and ski it hard, party hard, bite the bullet for a night's lodging somewhere and then ski Snowmass the next day for a more laid back experience. If you were doing only a week or two I'd skip it, but with 3.5 weeks you've got the time to experience the variety.

Thanks for all the responses.@Scooter in Seattle, We have previously spent about 6 weeks in Colorado and spent time at aspen and neither of us were fans of it, much preferred snowmass. Also spent time at most of the major areas and will be revisiting beaver creek this trip. The other areas are new for us which is what we wanted to get from this visit to Colorado.
Schedule below which was booked last summer and we already have the epic pass. We have built in transfer days and ‘tourist’ days
Copper Mountain 2days
Beaver Creek 4days
Sunlight 2
Keystone - 1
Arapahoe Basin 1
Loveland 1
Keystone 1
Breckenridg 4

Sunlight is an interesting choice. I feel like Winter Park or Vail would fit into your routing better, but maybe you just want to drive out that way? Glenwood Springs is nice, true enough, but also that stretch of I70 can get dicey. Drive safely and have a blast! Colorado skiing is some of the best! (Blue Sky Basin at Vail on a powder day is wonderful)

MogulMonkey,
We had an epic powder day at Sunlight in Feb 23. There were only a dozen cars in the car park when we arrived and we were still getting fresh powder tracks at 3pm! Very Happy

Did you consider Silverton Mountain? It's our favourite spot in Colorado and I'd recommend not missing it if you can fit in a visit. A great town and fantastic skiing!

Not so much “judging” but commenting (but yes, it’s a negative comment because I think the negativity is deserved). You’re not the only one who didn’t get the drift of the OP. rolling eyes

The OP had a very specific itinerary. It’s an indication either he knows the area rather well, or had a specific reason to spend x number of days at y resort. (Subsequent posts by the OP clarified it’s the former). Either way, suggesting another well known but far away resort is likely irrelevant. You might as well suggest he go ski Utah!
