Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm surprised pistes like this still exist but the ski resort of les 7 laux has both this and the Beldina freeride area. It is basically a big alpine valley that they don't bother pisteing that descends from 2350 to 1450 meters with no escape route. The top always moguls up with some really nasty bumps. You can ski straight from the col, which I do sometimes but it is 40 degrees and you don't want to fall. The run is basically the whole valley. After the entrance the slope is much more reasonable but there are cliff bands in places which are best avoided and it all funnels into a narrow track and here it moguls up again.
If it were in the Savoie or Haute-Savoie it would be one of the pistes to ski but as it is tucked away near Grenoble it is relatively unknown.

To give some perspective, it is not la Grave but if you have pretensions to ski steeper, unpiste slopes it is a good playground.

@davidof
, I really enjoyed the number and variety of black / mogul runs in Les Sept Laux when I was there. Not sure there are many other smallish, internationally little-known ski areas with such a decent selection of them.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@denfinella
, yes you did an excellent report. You can see from the thumbnail on the video above that from the col there is a small, oblique couloir to ski with cliff bands below or if you turn after the nets you ski a non mogulled slope but above thos cliff bands. They don't seem to winch many people out of the vallons but the cliff bands both there and further down seem like a recipe for accidents.
