@v1cky24, I used to run boys ski trips from work. My wife soon became an honorary 'boy', and never missed a boys holiday afterwards. Just get your round in and don't try to drag your husband out of the pub early.

I would definitely suggest finding some skiing friends and organising your own long weekend trip. It’s much easier to do these days with quite a few providers and/or you can just book accomodation and flights separately. I started doing this about six years ago and the trip grew from six friends to eighteen last time as friends asked if they could invite other friends and it ‘snowballed’.

I've read some nonsense on here but this might just be the biggest load..Those boys trips soon became work trips where the organiser took his wife. If any of your colleagues wives had wanted to attend your poor colleagues wouldn't have had a leg to stand on. Completely different situation to a friend's group where many of the wives ski.
@v1cky24, you're absolutely right to let your silly husband have his silly fun with his silly friends once in a while. He's obviously a grown man who has no problem with you attending a bash or one of theses 'ski godess' trips both of which sound fantastic.

@v1cky24, I empathise completely, I'm a similar and I share very similar feelings (you'll see from my forum signature). As a middle aged man I wouldn't say it's solely a middle aged woman thing (there would be no problem if it was though).
I spend most of the year desperate to get more skiing in and trying to come up with ways to fit it in to family life.
From reading your post it sounds like you are looking for a solo weekend trip with some people to ski with, the obvious answer is a bash but these are full weeks (there may be a solution to this).
How a bash could work for you:
- The PreBBWUW12 & S21BB run consecutively in the Italian Dolomiti ski area.
- This means that there will be plenty of friendly snow heads in the area over the weekend of Saturday 1 Feb.
- The bashes have an "I'll be in the 'hood" button on the front page which suggests you can join the social part of a bash without being tied to a full week (I'm assuming that's what it means you would need to check)
- You could self book a long weekend in Arabba for the weekend of Saturday 1 Feb. Ideally the long part of the weekend would be on the following Monday/Tuesday to coincide with the start of the S21BB.
- If you needed to book a weekend starting on Thursday/Friday of the preceding week then you would book in Alleghe for the PreBBWUW12.
- Once you have accommodation booked you can press the "I'll be in the 'hood" button for one of both of the bashes.
- You could also ask on the bash thread to get access to as much of the social stuff as you want (i.e. hotel meals, events, spa access etc.) again I'm assuming this is possible but you could ask in advance on one of the bash threads to confirm what is possible. Typically hotels are keen on selling more meals and drinks though so it sounds like a possibility!
The above should be possible with the later season bashes by starting on the Saturday and having the long part of the weekend run into the bash week.
I would check out the UCPA short breaks, there is an age limit but I have found they are flexible with it if you phone them up
https://www.ucpa.co.uk/activities/snowsports/skiing/short-breaks-ski/
Hope you find something that works for you

@v1cky24, find the courage not the patience.
I totally agree - older I get (also mid 40s) more I want to make hay. You never know what's coming down the line so just do it!
I've done a couple of ski goddess courses and they were great if a little pricey. Made a couple of friends on the first, we coordinated to go together on the second, then they joined me and my other half for a long weekend in 24 (plus a one of their husbands joined for a couple of days), and we're talking about getting a trip in March. Never would have met them if I hadn't taken the plunge! Ski Goddess is a bit of a luxury, awesome food, great instructor, interesting women and time to concentrate on yourself.
Also did a snowheads bash a few years ago and it was really sociable and friendly.
Basically, just go for it! You'll have a ball and be demanding your own trip every year!

As mentioned above: https://skigoddess.co.uk/
I see them around Chatel and wider PDS a lot. Main thing to say is they all seem to be enjoying it. We followed one group down to lunch yesterday, only 4 clients and one instructor. They split up to ski in groups at different levels and often meet up for lunch at Plaine Dranse in the Pre La Joux area of Chatel, yesterday groups were in two different restaurants.
Most stay in a chalet at Petit Chatel and have transport to get them around. Expensive though!

A trip which includes instruction makes sense from many points of view. You could also look at Inside Out skiing - highly recommended. But the "full week" thing might be a problem. How long is the boys trip?
But yes - do it. I did a lot of work travelling, on my own obviously, so travelling alone doesn't bother me - in fact it's absolutely the best way to travel! But for the skiing, it's good to have company and people who have opted for instruction usually have the kind of mindset which makes them open, and good company. (That's maybe a kind of mystical statement, but I have found it to be true!).

@ElzP, what an inspiration! I hadn’t even heard of these before to be honest. I haven’t really considered going solo before probably. But as I age I’m sort of thinking, well what’s the point of waiting. What am I waiting for? Get on and do it.
Tuition is a good shout also. @Origen, I’ve not sorted any tuition for a lot of years now for several reasons. That’s not to say I don’t need any though! The time for that for myself would indeed be a luxury as elzp says!
I think I’m going to have to give this some serious thought. How to make this the art of the possible. I’ve only got 3-4 at a push days to play with left annual leave wise so a full week is out. Boys ski trip is 3 days off so I could have made that one work.

@v1cky24, inspiring numbers of bottles of wine consumed certainly.
Just to muse on all of the above - getting away on your own allows you to open up to new friends and experiences in a way that's difficult to do as a family or couple group I think, another reason it's worth giving any of the trips mentioned a go. And as we get a bit older that's really valuable, finding new folk with common interests!
Anyhoo, hope you find something that suits!

@ElzP, like the sound of wine.
You’re right though. I have over the last few years met some great people as I really enjoy cycling and use Zwift a lot. That has spawned some friendships and some (largely day outs cycling) with people from all walks of life which has been great.
No reason not to do that with skiing I don’t suppose?

@DJL, @v1cky24, I haven't done a Ski Goddess course, but have skied with a couple of the instructors through the Chamonix Women's Mountain Club, and they were excellent. I would definitely recommend their trips on that basis, if you want top notch and friendly instruction and good ski days.

@v1cky24, You are welcome
I have found solo trips are great. If you find one other like minded friend it can really open things up. I used to do solo trips and now go with another dad that likes the same kind of ski holidays.
We do one week a year just us and a family trip later in the year. My wife is a non skier so I do all the family trips on my own with my son this way I am parenting while my wife gets the chance for a break herself.
Being with another family combines 1-1 time with my son and also allows a good amount time while my son is in lessons or with the kids from the other family.

@Henwc, it’s tough isn’t it.
Just need to find ways of making it happen. We’ve taken our children from a young age skiing and as a result they are competent. It’s only now that other friends of ours have taken / starting to take the plunge and go skiing. I’ve always dreamed of having some company from friends skiing but we’ve never made it happen as a family yet. I have high hopes for next year! But it’s a big commitment I suppose and you have to really want to go.
I have some friends that have skied a long time ago - but are not as enthusiastic about it as I am. I could potentially go with them if I could make it work and they were willing. But it would be 1 run 1 aperol or they’d have lessons and I could be skiing alone potentially which didn’t sound like much fun. (Not the aperol bit)
So a solo trip is probably the solution. Now to find one!

@v1cky24, I've only been on one bash as all my buddies weren't available, (then my bro in law decided to come at the last minute!) But I can say a bash would suit, they are a reasonably human bunch for the most part.
I have worked with folk who've used Heidi to organise lone trips, either short breaks or full weeks. There are other websites that do short breaks too.
I have also booked accomodation/flights/transfers myself which also worked well...chair lift chats can generally mean skiing buddies if only for the next run, or even the next day.
Just go for it, you'll love it.

Don’t quite get what the problem is.
If you want to go, go.
If you can’t do a full week, do a long weekend.
You don’t have friends who can join you? Go alone.
I just don’t see any problem so far. Just go!
I’m here in Japan, all by myself, because I only decided to do the trip last week. Sure, I could have done it cheaper if I book far in advance. But… it’s been snowing all day today, and it’s still snowing (right now it’s night here in Japan). Tomorrow should be fantastic!
I talk to people in the same hotel - the hotel has a “mixer” 5-7pm everyday. I asked where others had eaten and which restaurant is good. I talk to people while riding the chair, mostly to figure out where the good snow and terrain is. Talk to people while riding the bus too. As for the skiing part? I don’t have to wait for others (though I did wait for one woman when we decided on the gondola ride to venture into the ungroomed black “premium zone” together)

 You know it makes sense.
|
@abc, good for you! Great you don’t see lack of company/ have the confidence to talk to people. We’re not all wired that way
I’m not exactly a shy bairn but booking to go on a trip with strangers/alone is not something I’m used to doing or fully comfortable with . You’re right though- there are more reasons on the ‘do it’ list rather than the ‘don’t do it’ list

Go one one of the bashes. Some of them are really good value, like the pre one at the end of this month. Even if you did 4 days it would be worth it for the ease of meeting some others and it all being organised. I dithered for ages but went on one last year for similar reasons to you. I also like that if you have a mate that wants to come, they can just come along too.
Seems like the easiest solution if you're not quite ready for the full loner approach and might benefit from an easy ways to meet others. Worked for me, I'm going back to the pre-BB, even though I'll probably only ski mornings. Was still worth it.

Bashes full of toffs? That is comically wide of the mark. There are more IT boffins than you can shake a stick at, but toffs are few and far between.

As a mid 40s male with a similar sense of urgency, I seem to spend every spare moment dreaming up ski breaks:
If you live near London and are happy to Ski at a resort close to an airport, you can get 4 days of skiing for 2 days off of work:
- Fly out on Thursday evening after work (there is a 5.45pm London City to Geneva flight arriving 8.10pm)
- Suitable resorts within an hour or so from Geneva incl Chamonix, Morzine, Avoriaz, Flaine, La Clusaz etc
- Ski on Fri, Sat, Sun, Sun, Mon.
- You need to get back to your accom for say 5pm on Monday to get a transfer back to Airport to catch a 8.30pm flight.
(At least that my plan...)

So just do it.
I first went on the EoSB back in 2013. On my own, as many do. I couldn't quite believe I was doing it rather than trying to coordinate with friends and family. It was just so much better than I could have imagined. Even getting whiplash (from a high-speed wipeout) could barely wipe the smile from my face.
Since then I've been on quite a few bashes, with my wife and kids in tow and alone. Only now I'm not travelling alone, I'm with friends I've made through snowHeads.
Not many toffs, either.
