New boots, correctly fitted at solutions4feet
Old zipfits.
Boosterstraps.
Tight.
Day 1: Ouch! These are really tight! Skiing with clips undone was quite tight enough.
Day 2: Clips just done up, pinch points reducing but cramping accross forefoot.
Day 3: All done up now. A very, very firm hold, pinch points gone, cramping nearly gone
Day 4: Clips significantly tighter now. No pinching and no cramping.
Day 5: These are lovely! A total firm hold, no pain at all. No movement. Great control.
This was exactly how I expected the new boot evolution to pan out. The old zipfits just had to remould to the new shell. These will be perfect for a long time to come.
I wonder if some people give up on new boots too soon because they expect comfort, real comfort, straight away?

I wore mine around the house for a good week before taking them on their first trip. Got to break them in!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@rungsp, that's pretty much spot on, IME. Nice! Enjoy!!
@Roscoe, wearing them round the house is not a great idea, unless you walk around all the time with your skis on?

No skis (for obvious reasons), but just wanted to get use to them. Did the same with every new pair of football boots I got. Maybe its more ritual than beneficial.

@Roscoe, football boots I'm sure it makes sense. Ski boots are different in that you should have some weight on the "tongue" and have legs a bit bent, etc.
Been loads of stories on here of "my boots hurt, been wearing them round the house", etc., which isn't how you'd (hopefully) be using them in real life (appreciating restaurants, bars, dancing on tables in Folie).

Completely agree. There was a fair amount of strange walking in, an as close to ski position as could be style.
Dancing on the table in the Folie! Were you in Avoriaz on the Friday 19th Dec by any chance?!

I took my new boots with me on a trip in December, and was in absolute agony. I just couldn't figure out how they could be so bad compared to how they felt when I had them fitted.
Literally minutes before taking them to a shop in resort to get them looked at (or melted down for scrap... I was NOT happy), I remembered the ski shop in the UK had put chunky insoles in at the last minute in an attempt to slightly pull my big toe away from the front(?) and I'd forgotten all about it!
I removed the insoles and the problem went away immediately. I couldn't believe I'd even tried to ski with them the first two days. Still tight - so the evolution laid out in the first post may still be in play... but the difference it made was night and day.

I've just had a new pair fitted at Rivington Alpine and they're TIGHT..... I've been told to wear them round the house for at least 10 hours until i go to the Birthday Bash.. I lasted 30 mins on the first wear!!

I had my boots fitted at Solutions4feet. My previous pair were agony and I stopped skiing at lunchtime because they were so uncomfortable. It took me a lot less time with my new boots. By day two they were totally comfortable. Four ski trips later I absolutely love them. It’s the only place so would consider buying ski boots now.
