So there doesnt appear to be direct bus transfers from innsbruck airport or bus station to val gardena (will happily be proven wrong) so planning to travel by train via innsbruck hbf to brennero/brenner then onwards towards Waidbruck/ponte gardena. The public buses from here are slow up the hill so wonder if anyone has had experience of finding any private firm bus transfers from any of the rail stations in the valley e.g. aforementioned brennero/brenner or bressanone/brixen or waidbruck/ponte gardena, Failing that a reliable taxi firm for the last leg. Thanks in advance. Just one person so not interested in car hire.

Worked great for me last year, transfer from Brixen to Selva (EC train from Munich), transfer to Bozen/from Selva (Frecciarossa train to Venice, quick change in Verona).
My train was late/early but in previous years if arriving early during the day bus was just as fine, maybe 30-45 mins longer than transfer.
Prices quoted for this year are bit higher. Bus works great if your train from Innsbruck arrives on time to catch a bus 350

Saves about $200 for 1 hour longer trip. Public transportation is great if traveling solo and don't mind few hours extra time, relax and enjoy and save some $$$

Thanks All…..probably going to go with public transport given the regular timetable which means any flight delays can be accommodated without too much hassle. I guess my one remaining question is, can you easily get a seat in the bus 350 (or 360 also i believe at ponte gardena) up the hill to selva?

Super easy, bus was never too crowded, it gets more people in/out along the route but arrives in Selva never more than 70% full. Big, proper bus.
Some trains from Austria/Germany direction (Innsbruck) do not stop in Waidbruck/Ponte Gardena but do stop in Brixen/Bressanone or Bozen. Local train to Weidbruck or bus 360 is just fine from Brixen, bus 350 from Bozen, both from Waidbruck.
I don't know anything about Innsbruck Airport to Innsbruck train station transfer but I would assume it is straight forward. Public transportation could be easy way to move around but paying attention is important.

Usually no problem. I've done the journey around 10 times and never struggled for a seat. 350 and 360 both get you up the hill. If you are delayed and will arrive in Ponte Gardena after the last bus, taxi is the way to go. I've used both TaxiDul and AutoSella.

Based in Selva, Viaggi Gardena is family owned and run. Alex speaks English, Italian and German, Nicky is English. Small enough to care, large enough to say "yes".
A few years ago a small booking going to Livigno missed their flight to Malpensa (I think) - they flew to Innsbruck, Inghams transfer to Ponte Gardena and then Viaggi Gardena to Livigno. Easy.

Nice one! So that's what happens when an English tour rep falls in love with an Italian bus driver!!

@luigi, As far as I recall, whilst Alex grew up in/around Selva, Nicky didn't meet him there. But, yes, she had been a holiday rep in Austria and then Italy.
